My Auntie Nell used to buy me a Shoot annual every Christmas during the 70's but I would never get to see it until Boxing Day because my Dad would nick it beforehand. I regularly bought the magazine each week and was sad to learn that it no longer exists. From recollection, it was not condescending to it's young audience and I remember that when Frank Worthington gave some frivolous but amusing answers to an interview on the back page there were loads of Mums who wrote in to complain the following week. Unfortunately, my copies got thrown out years ago. The player columns were ghost written and I can also remember the a cartoonist called Styx as well as a Clive Thomas - sponsored strip called "You are the ref." The colour photos and team spreads were always the choice element of the magazine whilst I never did understand why the football results and league were always about two months out of date.
