I wonder if getting Hamilton was just to stop the board from pulling out, like Toyota trying to tempt Raikkonen in 09. The next two years with Lewis are the last chance saloon for them. If its still bad in 2014 he'll jump ship and so probably will the brand.
I'd say that getting one of the current top 4 drivers was a crucial part of Mercedes remaining in the sport. Without it I imagine they may have just closed the doors and stuck with engine manufacture. As for getting Hamilton out of the contact... I don't see it happening at all, but a lot of money could make it happen. They'd have to pay off Merc and compensate Perez... so the chances are all but nil. McLaren should have just stumped up the cash. Unfortunately they still believe no driver is bigger than the team. You only have to look at how much Ferrari paid to secure Alonso's talents... And for very good reason.
Then Hamilton in an RBR with Vettel at Ferrari and Alonso back at Macca? Now that would proper bonkers.
In no particular order.. Di Resta, Hulk putting some serious manners on him with his recent performances! RBR for doing a McLaren and only getting one car home! The Indian Cucumber, HRT is a shocking car but when combined with Narain, its woeful and at times dangerous! Jenson for a poor start but credit due for the rest of the drive to get back to 5th! Mercedes, pound for pound they're worse than the HRTs!
Merc in general even though Schuey did qualify well but we have to take into account that Roseberg was in the old spec car. Vettle for his outburst. Redbull & Mclaren for compromising Webber and Button even though neither would have mateched their teammates.
Back on topic, I have to agree that Mercedes were awful. Schumacher went backwards compared to Rosberg, who, in the interests of a better race, used the car differently all weekend. So, Mercedes get the custard but Renault alternators are rhubarb.
He was average all weekend, not even that, he was poor. Michael outperformed the car in Quali, but the car he was in (new spec) had extreme tyre wear. Pitting him before the end of the race compromised everything.
Just thinking the same myself, to invest such huge amounts of money and employ some of the best, to get results like this is a joke.
Ye will learn the ways of the internet, he is a very ugly person to please even with his vast knowledge of the universe thanks to his demi Gods Wikipedia and Google!
Gonna agree with most of you guys and say Mercedes. What has happened to those guys? They've gone completely off the rails haven't they
Merc all the way. However a special mention should be made for those 2 spectators that tried to 'high five' after Hamilton took the lead and failed miserably!
