have we had our chips? preston put 6 past carlisle. town need a win against crewe + 3 more points. do hope we may take suprise points at gills. once again our gd shines like a beacon. i dread next season wherever we are,

We are still in with a chance but that sickening late goal today has made it a lot more difficult. Crewe is definitely a must win and perhaps Preston and Peterborough will be pretty comfortable in their play-off positions by the time we play them. Even given that, realistically anything we get at Preston will be a bonus so I think we will have to beat Crewe and Peterborough to take it into the last day. Looking on the bright side we have won our last two home games and defended well and also have Summerfield back to give us an extra attacking dimension from midfield. We will almost certainly have to finish above Notts County to escape and their goal difference is rapidly improving (now just one worse than ours) so lets hope they come unstuck at some point. If we do take it to the last game against a Gillingham side with nothing to play for it will definitely be on. I have missed the last two games as I have been on holiday but I will be going to the last two home games and the Gills game if we still have a chance.
Relegation is still the most likely option but it does not have to be a disaster. Whatever happens at the end of the season I would like to see a proper selection process for manager and some quick activity in the transfer market to get some key permanent signings. Jackson should be one of the applicants to see whether his vision and plans for the club are better than the other applicants - he has obviously not been dealt a good hand but I think many fans are still harbouring doubts over whether he is the best man for the job.
 
Two wins and a draw may just about be enough, and I struggle to see us getting any more than that. Preston may well have nothing to play for, but that can alleviate pressure and make you play better, as it did with us for the last three games of last season. At least with a full squad to choose from, I feel fairly confident against Crewe and think we should stand a chance against Posh, who haven't done well at all over the last few months. Gillingham game will be touch and go. We do have a very pessimistic fan base on the whole, and plenty seem to have given up the ghost - I have seen a few suggest we'll need to win all our remaining fixtures to stay up. If we do win them, we will stay up but there's no way that it's a prerequisite. Hopefully we can regroup next season - Goldson, Taylor, Grandison, Woods, Mkandawire, D. Mac and Winfield are all under contract (or we have an option to ensure they are in JG's case) next season and all are more than capable of doing a job in League 2. Should we go down, Jacobson, Weale and Summerfield will be off but we might stand a chance of re-signing Wildig. Bradshaw, too, would probably sign an extension if offered and I think he would be worth giving opportunities to at the lower level.

You are right - we have spent most of our recent history in League 2 so a return would not be a disaster. But what we must do is learn from our recent mistakes so we can, if we do go down, push again for League 1 and have a better chance of staying there.
 
We still have a glimmer of hope to stay up and I'm still optimistic of that happening, until we slip up against Crewe and other results go against us then I think we have a chance. Real shame we slipped up against Tranmere as we would be sat where they are now!

League two, if it comes to it wouldn't be too bad and at least there are some good away games !!
 
i remain cheerful and optimistic until the end of fridays game. i would not be too hacked off if relegated as if we survive, i can see town being cut adrift at the bottom with similar funding/ loans . it is always better to be fighting for play offs, than fannying around in the flotsam and jetsom of league 1.

i suspect RW set his hopes on GT getting town up the league without funding,.

what is needed urgently is the wycherley family selling some of the club shares to people of vision and enterprise. they need to ensure that white elephant of a stadium is used throughout the year. an urgent rebrand is necessary, and i would not be against the stripes again or quarters or hoops. whatever it is that ruddy awful badge has to go.

i have respect for RW, but i do wish he would listen more to us and imagine the club shop tills ringing online and off.

i have suggested elsewhere our sponsors donate a small car as a prize and raffle tickets are sold at each home game and the prize presented at last home game.

so it is not curtains, but the fat lady will be in song throughout next season unless something radical is not done to bring in experienced players for next season. FS
 
i could put up with a smaller squad next season. say 18, a mixture of youth and aged experienced players some of them doubling up as player coaches. whatever happens where we are next season, expect cutbacks and austerity. although the economy is generally improving and may allow toe public to spend on events the board or commercial department care to arrange at the meddah.

The old adage ... If you want to make a million in football invest five million.

Fans don't bring in the money needed if they own it. You need someone with good business nous to be in charge of the reins/rudder.
 
Whoever owns the club we desperately need a proper Board that contains people with football and financial expertise so they can drive the club forward. The alarming regularity with which the club's admin staff come and go indicated that the overall management of the club is not in a healthy state.
 
clubs that are fan owned do have credible business people running their admin, but its done on a voluntary basis and they do have a board of directors, wages aren't skimmed off the top, plus the business people who are running it are doing for the love of the club, not back pocket earners, and fans also get involved too ,even local business are more likely to give sponsorship .....instead of having 4 or 5 pockets taking money out of a club, you can have 6000 putting money back into it!!.......
 
you mentioned one failure, and that was a totally different scenario anyway. but i could mention.. Hereford, Chester, Luton, Aldershot, Cambridge,Wrexham, Darlington, Stockport, and tons of other clubs like Leeds, Coventry,Port Vale Portsmouth, Plymouth,Rotherham, etc who have been shafted by their board of directors at the time. and im also saying fan owned clubs doesn't guarantee you success on the pitch, but it gives you (the supporter) more say in how the club is run and more transparency, so if things go pear shape fans can rally around and give money in knowing its going back directly to the club! ...and... 'er' ..like we've been successful this season.:emoticon-0112-wonde
 
AJ is prepared to join the board with the aid of webcam but has a meagre amount to spend on the club. perhaps a bag of chips from the new fleet of chippyshrews vans next season. see them touring suburbs and villages, they could be a gold mine. er that reminds me thursday evening, chip van is down the road !
