It is a pity. I only knew because two young girls came and found me, they were crying, really upset. Of course I went over there, but they'd gone.
Always been a dog lover. "A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.” -Josh Billings
I absolutely cannot be doing with people being cruel to animals. It make my blood boil. Go and punch hell out of a punch bag, kick the wall or whatever but what satisfaction can anyone get out of cruelty to small creatures with so much love to give. Rant over.
How can anyone be cruel to an animal that acts like this? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-europe-55779275
Works both ways .. its in the irony of the original statement I believe ! Either apply though, and I for one would be quite happy to hand out some justice to those who harm animals.
Loved that obvious special bond that existed between Filey and Lia. Trust Lia is thriving with Filey's partner Mary. Have never had a dog but we walked a couple for many years when an elderly lady down the road from us became too frail to take them out for exercise.
Always had dogs and always will. If I am still around when the current two pass on me and the wife might do what an old chap up the road does. He must be in his late 80s and for years he has passed by with two dogs which change quite often. They all plod along together,Talking to him a while ago he said since his wife passed on quite a while ago and he got older he couldn't manage a lively dog he adopts older dogs which have been stuck in rescue centres for quite some time and unlikely to be rehomed. He says he enjoys giving them some love and affection which some may not have had or which they wouldn’t have got if stuck in kennels and ensuring their remaining time is happy even if it maybe for only one, two or three years. Lovely old chap.
Over the 50 years we have had around 20 cats. Read a lot of Terry Pratchett works and love this from his Sourcery series. Quote: "I meant, said Ipslore bitterly, what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?" Death thought about it. "Cats," he said eventually, "Cats are nice".
As someone once said " If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."
Just made me think. We used to get hedgehogs in our garden regularly. My next door neighbour built run throughs for them in our fence and the fences of the neighbours on the other side. Had to keep an eye on the dogs when I let them out at night as there was a hedgehog in nearly every night at the right time of the year, often 2 and even on some occasions 3. Can't recall seeing a single one in 2020.
Well said HPT. I hope the Good Lord has a special place in Hell reserved for the monsters who mistreat and are cruel to defenseless children and animals. The love I have received from my six children and my little Rescue dogs in my life has been a special gift for which mere words cannot express my thanks.
What a beautiful anecdote Barchullona. I have tried to do the same as your old friend. The psychic and emotional rewards are enormous. And the memories never fade.
Many thanks for all your kind thoughts, responses and comments to my OP. Received a couple of great PM's too. xx Never had children so cats have been real treasures in our close family circle. In the house the hallway is a gallery showing all our previous furry family members and large hanging calendars on other walls feature cats.
