Since November the Gas have played 11 league games: collecting six points from seven away games and ten points from four home games. With a heavily biased away to home ratio, collecting sixteen points from those eleven games is good average form. But the Gas still sit precariously close to the bottom of the table. The problem has been that most of the other clubs who were in the danger zone have also played pretty well. The teams in the bottom third of the table have closed the gap with the middle third, leaving the lower half of the table very flat. Two or three consecutive wins and teams like Accrington and York have flown up the table. Northampton are looking increasingly stranded. If the Gas could score a few more goals then we would climb the table rapidly. So we need either to change the defensive tactics and become more attack minded; strengthen our strike force; or preferably do both. But please JW do it sooner than too late!!!
league games only, we have lost just 3 in last 12 games, conceding just 8 goals and keeping 6 clean sheets. any team would love those stats. scunthorpe who are top have also conceded just 8 goals in their last 12 league games and also kept 6 clean sheets. so defensively we are as good as the top teams. defensively we are sound. mcchrystal has come back to form after return from injury. mildenhall has made some outstanding saves that has kept us in games. woodards is now back and that gives even more support. having the likes of clarke, lockyer and clucus to sit in front of the defence makes us more sound defensively too. home and away - defensively we are sound. attacking though is our issue. in these 12 games we have scored just 11 and 8 of those 11 goals were scored at home. start of the season we were too defensive at home. this meant negative results. however since certain players have returned from injury we have been able to be more attack minded at home. we been creating more and scoring more while still being sound defensively. we have found that balance. however away games we are still playing too defensive as we were at home at the start of the season at home. we aint creating hardly anything so therefore hardly scoring any goals away. we need to play our away games more like how we play at home. then i have no doubts that we will create more and score more and therefore pick up more points. if we play this defensive away then we need lots of pace to be able to play the counter attack. but we dont have any pace at all. if this can be addressed then i think we will be more attacking away from home. just my opinion but when you see the facts/stats, i cant be that far off surely!
