I really can't be arsed to read through all of this thread, so this has possibly been said before, please ignore if so, but I feel that Papa Allam, in removing the name yet KEEPING the 1904, is just having a gigantic pisstake at the expense of the City Til We Die group. It almost feels like he's saying 'yeah, sing your song at 19.04, but I'll just take another piece of your name away'. I mean why else would he leave the 1904 on the badge, after all he's proven that he doesn't give a toss about tradition???
I don't think the person(s) behind this are that clever. They think '1904' has more commercial clout and resonance with people in the Far East than Hull City, the name of this year's Cup finalists (exposed to 500 million people last month).
Its just the constant refusal to use "Hull City" on anything that is driving me mad. I really cannot understand the man. He claims he loves it here and feels grateful for the opportunities this City has given him and it could have all been so different. This time last year there was a fantastic air of excitement, now there isn't. Advertising "The Club" "The Team". We are going to be City of Culture, we were in the FA Cup Final. We should be selling loads of shirts and other merchandise. I can really see the bubble bursting this year and Steve Bruce deciding to jump ship as the atmosphere around the club gets more bitter. If sales of season passes go down he is to arrogant to see it as his fault. Somehow CTWD will get the blame and he will take his bitterness out on the fans even more.
If and when I buy anything from the club shop it is always clothing, flags or car stickers. I buy these items because I want to show people where ever I am going that I am from Hull and support Hull City. If 'Hull City' is removed from such items then I, for one, will not buy anything.
It's just so childish. You could not pick a better time to market and promote a city and club on the up. The city has so much to shout about right now that its top flight football team should be playing an active role in promoting this feel good factor. Instead, we're left with a bitter old man who is having a paddy because he has not got his own way. He's like the child in the playground who takes their ball away because nobody is playing how they want them to.
Be that as it may the owners are clever enough to know that they have basically stuck two fingers up at supporters and The FA, and no one, as far as I know, can force them into having the clubs name on the badge...it's all becoming a bit of a farce really
Living here my "season ticket" was tigers player. Now that all the games are on TV I no longer have that. The only thing I currently buy are flags, posters, clothing and one kit a year. I will probably continue to do so. It would feel like I was in no way contributing to the club if I no longer purchased anything. Even though I am pissed with the name change and everything. I do care more about the club than I am angry I guess. My hcafc wall in my shop.
This is just what the club has needed for years. We're going to make ****ing millions out of this, just you watch.
I'm sure you've posted it before, but how come you ended up following the Tigers? Great that you do, but unusual to have a fan with no affiliation to the area (apologies if I'm wrong). When are you going to get over to watch a couple of live games, and experience the Mecca of football?
I didn't think it was a shock, not to me. That's why I pointed out in the WC thread that Belgium were the better European prospect. Spain - midfield was too long in the tooth, introducing a striker (Costa) into the side, which undermined the way the rest of the team had played for years in the national side. No Puyol, poor centre halves in Pique and Ramos and a keeper that hadn't played much first team football for his club - let alone country. Recipe for disaster. They have been far worse than I thought they would be, but they have done as well as I thought they would.
Yea I have posted it before. Every time I have almost come over something has stopped me. The current plan is the season after next. A friend of mine is moving to Germany and we might meet up in Hull and go to some games. I have followed the English game since I was a kid. I lived in Europe for 5 years. Anyway back in like 2006 I decided I wanted to follow my own team. As opposed to what everyone here does and watch Arsenal, Man U or Liverpool. Normally I just cheered for whoever was playing them, going for the underdog and all. In 06 I decided I was tired of that, wanted to be invested in a particular club. Since I am clearly a crazy person I took a piece of paper and wrote down a whole list of "qualities" in a club and a city that I wanted to cheer for. I wanted to make sure I was cheering for a specific team, culture, community etc that fit me. One of my good friends at work was from England. We had never actually talked about his team for some reason. He went to Oxford so I had no idea he was from Hull. Anyway I brought my list to him and listed off the things I had written down. He kinda sat there and then said that the club that fit that mold was his club and the city he was from. I was like, Ok, what club am I a fan of then? He gave a link to the Amber Nectar forum, the hull daily mail and the club website. I purchased Setanta, tigers payer and pretty much the next day started to watch us, or listen to us, or unfortunately sometimes "watching" the bbc text of the game. I take full responsibility for our performance since 2006, it was my joining up that has brought us to the promised land.
Forgive me if I'm wrong. but wasn't it you who said Roy should have taken Cole, despite him not getting much game time for his club, let alone country? If you predicted Spain would be **** then fair play, but I think most people expected them to do well and it's hardly something to mock AKCJ about. On paper I think they've got one of the best squads.
The Spanish squad is too old, especially when they play high tempo pass and move football. We've all seen how 'On Paper' squads perform - Is there a worse saying than 'On Paper'? I may have said Hodgson should have taken Cole, but if he had of taken more experience in that back four, then we might be taking about an England team getting into the knock out stages. Instead we'll be looking at an England team likely losing all 3 games. A goal keeper is a critical position to be putting someone in who has barely featured, which seemed very strange given the number of other decent Spanish keepers that had played well in their respective leagues. Casillas was awful, I don't know how many goals exactly he was at fault for - but it was a few.
