Apologies guys but I've been out all day at the beach (then food) and only now getting in!

So still nice beach weather in Wales? Were you swimming? I recall on a family holiday to Wales in the mid 60's when we visited Tenby beach my Dad made the mistake of letting our young white bull terrier off the leash and he ran down the length of the beach puncturing every plastic beach ball he could find, with Dad following along making financial settlements with the injured parties.

Later Dad and us kids constructed a vast sandcastle complex, a day long project, fit for a king, which everyone admired - I recall hearing many times, in a thick local accent, "Oh what a lovely castle", but of course, as is the case with all sandcastles, when high tide finally arrived, despite our valiant efforts to save the structure, all was eventually destroyed.

Yesterday was forecast to be a good day (weather-wise) and it was. Spend the day at Langland (Swansea). The Summer overall was pretty poor to be honest.

Looks nice with those classic beach changing huts that I remember from my youth - did you eat at the Langland Bay Manor?

Kilburn - we were sitting exactly at the bottom left of the photo, just after the end of the ramp down to the sand.

Nowadays the Manor has been converted into apartments.

We eat in Langlands Brasserie fairly regularly - the beige coloured parasols on the left of the picture!

Seems like a great place to enjoy a nice relaxed day on the beach providing the weather is good, with a good restaurant just a stone's throw away.

Hi Kilburn, yes it is. If only the weather was sunny for longer periods!

As for the clue, something Phoenix?

No, that's a bit cold (if Arizona), much closer to home - a player from our generation.

I like to read on the beach, in between swims of course. I love being by the sea, beachcombing, an ever changing landscape with the tides.

No Kilburn, not Green.

It is a player from our generation - in fact, he is about 6 weeks younger than me (57)

First name - a well known "Swan" although not part of the squad

Surname - concentrate on "Lime", sound like.

The well known "swan" is a "nice one"

"Nice one" Cyril (Knowles, if clue was 5,7 - wrong age though - didn't realise he died at a young 47)

Cyril the Swan (mascot , so not part of the squad) with his wife, Cybil
