Confused as to which country they are from? Heads for Welsh, tails for Irish (6,4) Apologies if the name isn't quite the same!
Yes - football club in England Clue - relates to a well known place where/when you are greeted by silence
Wow, I've finally broken my duck! I'm in Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick). Regarding your last clue, as a youngster, aged 12 in a boarding school for a year, for not taking the blame for older boys bad behaviour in the dormitory, I found myself sent to that place, and it wasn't much fun, forced to face them in the boxing ring at the gym after hours, continually punched in the arms till they were black & blue etc.
I used to visit Burlington, Ontario regularly between 2003 & 2007 Your Boarding School doesn't sound too welcoming
So that would be Upper Canada. In hindsight it would been much easier to have taken the slipper from the headmaster for causing all the late night commotion that I was not involved in. Around midnight, after repeated warnings shouted down, we were all lined up in the hallway outside the dorm and the headmaster, who lived upstairs in the big school mansion, asked for the culprits to step forward and take their punishment - with no response, he said he was going away for 5 mins and if somebody didn't step forward on his return everyone would be whacked (which he did). In the period of reflection the older boys instructed me to admit the blame and take the punishment, which I refused to do, hence sent to Coventry. I never reported the abuse to school authorities or my parents, and my plight only became apparent when the school matron saw my bruised arms whilst taking a bath and wanted to know what had happened to me - that ended the whole affair. One of them tried to continue it by taking private stuff out of my locker and I ended up throwing him to the ground - with that incident I gained the support of the senior prefects and that guy (Turner - nicknamed Bunse) never bothered me again.
Bloody hell - what an episode. Glad I went to the local Grammar School !! Burlington is about 50 mins from Toronto
In 2nd year I attended the local mixed grammar school and found myself streets ahead of the other kids in my education level - was pretty much top of the class for that year, in all subjects across the board. I had a really good year, but our family moved town and in 3rd year I found myself in a new grammar school (all boys - former private school). Soon after my arrival a group of older boys formed a circle around me and started pushing me around from one to another - using my private school skills I picked out one of the group and hurled him into some rose bushes - the rest of them backed off and they never bothered me again - the guy I threw in thorns (blond haired guy, named Lee) actually turned out to be an okay guy and we became friends, so I felt a bit bad about my rather direct action towards him.
Back to the clue, in 1970 I was part of a group on a working holiday that collected fossils here, under the leadership of a professor at Bedford College, London and the fossils were later presented to the British Museum.
