I have seen (as you must have) Carrick and Bastian on the half way line looking for a forward pass and seeing no movement. Herrera is usually further forward and among or on top of the defence but this shouldn't be a problem for him as his first touch is usually a pass because of his ability, unfortunately he has to keep the ball and look for a pass at the moment.
Its just his style. Impacted by a hip replacement as he said last season. He takes notes and addressesnthem at half time. If instructions need to be given during a game he will get them across and has done many times. Either via a sub or during a break in play.
What, shouting from the side lines? He's done it loads but I don't see the impact tbh. Some managers do nothing but shout and it doesn't achieve much. The training ground would be a better place for it.
LVG: " I want you to play boring , possession football. Pass the ball backwards and sideways. Don't bother shooting or going forwards. As long as you keep possession I am happy whether you score or not. Never take any risks and only shoot when you are 100% certain of scoring" FFS the players have as much responsibility as the manager. I said this when Moyes was manager and it is the same now. I am not LVG 's greatest fan but if any one believes this extreme scenario, then they are more naive than I thought.
Not quite what I meant. They know where to pass (forwards), they know when to pass (asap), the confusion comes in the who to pass to bit.
Can't say I've ever witnessed it. It's called direction, it's what managers are supposed to provide during games. If, as you say, the team are supposed to be making runs behind the defence for our midfield to makes passes to and aren't, it might be an idea for him to once in a while rise from his feet and point this out. *edit* it might go down well on all fronts. Perhaps the side won't get booed like it does when he sits down and watches it flounder.
TBH I think these are all excuses. I could see the argument you're making if this was happening on occasion, but it's systemic. I've been at games (as I've posted following the matches) where 76,000 fans can see the first time pass that's on, yet the players pause and turn. The fans groan in sync If the runs aren't happening, if the players aren't making the passes, if the creativity isn't there, then ultimately it is down to 2 things, either A) the manager isn't tackling this in training or coaching our players properly, or B) they're playing how he wants them to, but he genuinely believes that his philosophy (ie. that possession for the sake of possession) will eventually create openings and chances, but it's not working and never will. Today a few of us were counting passes on the half way line where forward passes were on but simply not taken. These were no more than 5 yards. 18 consecutive on the half way line at one point. Surely, anyone knows that doing this simply allows defences to organise and allow you to play in front of them. Our players included. So why do it? Unless you're being told to. All I'll say is no other club I know plays like this. Many face the same problems you've stated (it's not unique to us), yet still find ways to attack.
Don't get me wrong, I am fully pissed off with the slow approach we have and long for the days of the great Dane and Kanchelskis when an opposition corner meant a chance at goal for us. The thing is, I can't see it as the fault of one man, we have several experienced (well decorated) internationals in the team and I refuse to believe they see a pass (opportunity) and refuse to take it because of orders,
Do you believe another manager would face the same problems? Do you believe another manager would do a better job at solving them? (some will take this as me saying I want LVG sacked which is bollox, my point is that, in my mind I think that if another manager could solve this, then even if it isn't solely down to LVG, he is still ultimately not good enough)
If you are asking if I think another manager could get much more out of this squad then the answer is yes. I think LvG did what he had to do last year to re-establish us as a top team but now needs to push us forward to make us the best team we can be which would entail being much quicker in the build up.
I hope the games this weekend help put into perspective our match with Leicester. Spurs vs Chelsea - 0-0, shots on goal: 9(4) - 5(1) Norwish vs Arsenal: 1-1, shots on goal: 7(2) - 12(3) Liverpool vs Swansea: 1-0, shots on goal: 10(2) - 8(0) Everyone is quick to scream LVG and with BBC dedicating a whole article to "Boring United" when fkn Chelsea decided to enter a game without a recognized striker and with nasty 5 shots at goal. Mighty Arsenal grind out a draw and amazing Klopp's pool managed to score an incredible penalty to get the three points. YET, "poor/boring/awful/coward LVG" United could only get a draw against apparent "sht" Leicester who were top of the league and boosted by Premier League's number one striker. 1-1 was such a terrible result for United. I guess when Fergie was a manager, every game ended 5-0. Especially those amazing last three years of amazing football.
First of all you had no shots on target from open play. Secondly it's every game with Man Utd not just this week.
Which is why we sacked our manager, since which we've scored more goals than you and won 1 point fewer against in harder fixtures
Sure Anyway just to be clear about your position do you want LVG to be sacked as soon as a better candidate is available see out the season see out his contract extend his contract
It's a shame that you completely lost all credibility over the whole Klopp/Rodgers situation, not that I ever thought you had any but some of the "morons" as you referred to them used to give you the benefit of the doubt. Personally I would like LVG to see out the season as he will get us top 4 and then reassess at that time. It's the sensible approach to take and I don't need to draw any charts or invest in any branded duvet covers to know that. What about you and Klopp? Given you think he's a fraud I assume you want him gone and Rodgers reinstated ASAP?
