Penelope Jackson, 66, knifed David Jackson, 78, in their kitchen in Berrow, Somerset, on 13 February.

Bristol Crown Court heard the 999 call in full, in which she also told the operator: "I thought I'd get his heart but he hasn't got one."

Jackson refused to follow life-saving advice and said her husband was "moaning on the kitchen floor" and that "he's got some holes in him".

The victim had managed to call 999 himself, the jury were told, but could then be heard screaming as his wife allegedly drove the knife in a final time.

She calmly took over the call, telling the operator: "I've killed my husband, or tried to, because I've had enough."

Asked where he was, she replied: "He's in the kitchen bleeding to death with any luck."

Prosecutor Christopher Quinlan QC said Jackson would accept her husband's unlawful killing or his manslaughter, but not his murder.

Other parts of the 18-minute call played on the first day of the trial revealed Jackson describing her husband as "a total s***" who "deserves everything he gets".

She told the operator she had stabbed him because "he thought I couldn't go through with it".

"I'll end up in prison, which is preferable to my life right now," she added in the call.

Whenever i see stories like this I cant help but think how you gonna stay with someone who drives you that batshit crazy whereas you may knife them?

Obviously lifes not black and white but from not being able to walk away and start a new.. shes chosen to stay in that situation and now serve a lot of time inside.

Ive been with birds who sometimes willingly provoke your rage, ****s not healthy at all.

I think a lot of it occurs for financial reasons. It's not always easy to upsticks, but in truth it's the best thing you can do, and just rebuild your life.

I have to admit to laughing at the one liners in the story though. He's got no heart. He's got holes in him. Soz mustn't laugh, bad person. <laugh>

I'll always strongly disagree with people who say that about folk in relationships. Not sure that applies here as I don't know the back-story but once a person finds themselves in an abusive relationship it's not as easy as just being able to walk away. They have generally been worn down mentally over a period of time and its a lot more complicated than just being able to walk away from it.

I think it was the other way round in this case.

More than likely a white pagan but out of interest

what religion n colour is the attacker?

I've no idea the religion and colour of the attacker, I just saw the robin hood headline so stuck the story up. Reason being it reminded me of the white middle-aged man in America, the one who got his car trashed when taking to the streets with a crossbow and arrow, I had no idea of his religion either, probably some Christian cult... <whistle>
