I agree with most of what you say. I don’t think guns should be banned but definitely believe that tighter restrictions need to be applied. I just don’t like the way you and Fosse are basically saying **** him, he supported guns so he can’t complain about being killed. You can support something without deserving to be gunned down in front of your wife and two small children. I’d have sympathy for anybody that happened too. That’s where I differ to you and Fosse.
That's also true And I have an issue with the problems that alcohol causes, both to individuals the people around them and society in general I just think on the balance of risks, if you're going to allow unfettered access to both, Guns carry far more risks and consequences than alcohol.
Yeah for me it's more about the principle of the thought process rather than the actual objects themselves. The point I'm making is that there will be lots of things which society will accept brings harm if the perceived benefits are deemed worthwhile. It's just hard for us Brits to comprehend it with guns as the concept is so alien to us. I think alcohol is a good example as that's a big part of our culture here like guns are over there.
It's a fair point, but I think you misunderstand about me saying '**** him'. I just think it's ironic that he has been very vocal about supporting the right of everybody to carry guns and saying that it's acceptable that some people will die. And then he gets shot. I don't agree with his views on guns or a lot of what he talked about. In fact I'd say I was polar opposite to what he stood for on most things. But that doesn't mean I don't have sympathy for him or his family. He didn't deserve to die and the way in which he died, kind of illustrates the point about why I think he was wrong about gun control.
I agree with that, and over here we probably all believe that the supposed benefits of alcohol are much higher than those of guns. The Yanks though I suspect see it very differently.
Good debate anyway Ponks. Made some decent points while also considering mine. Unlike Fosse who got passive aggressive and then ran away when I asked a difficult question
I've spent a fair bit of time in the States and have friends who live there, not saying I or they know the whole picture, but I've not seen anything about restricting gun use that would negatively impact on their lives, on the contrary really, I think it would be a much safer country without unfettered access to guns Unfortunately alcohol is just a big a problem in the US as it is here.
Have you tried that moonshine? I seen some English guy drink some that was 190 proof. He had a couple of shots and looked ****ered.
That comes down to controls ... parents can control internet usage, websites can control who uses them, social media providers can too - all of these need constant reviews and improvements admittedly ... but you can't walk into a school with a tablet and kill repeatedly with it before anyone can stop you - so it's a completely false equivalence ...
I haven't but might need to if we lose on Sunday. If you're gonna relapse may as well do it properly init.
I tried some stuff that was distilled from potatoes once out there. It was in a little bar/shack place in the foothills of the mountains around Ojai. Never again lol I think some of the issues with alcohol in the US is that they don't use measures. If you ask for a Whisky at the bar, it's down to the barman's discretion how much they give you. I was in a bar with my missus years ago and she was ordering Bourbons and the barman was pouring out half a glass of the stuff for her each time She was absolutely ****ing hammered lol.
Working mate - so only posting when grabbing a coffee ... not sure what I haven't addressed or answered but happy to check back ...
But despite all those controls it will still happen at alarmingly high levels. Not all children have competent parents sadly. And the fact remains you're happy to accept kids will suffer from that to protect your right to use it.
See response to Saf above ... not heard of anyone bursting into a school and killing numerous kids with the latest Lenovo.. have you?
I can well imagine. It’s the same in Jamaica, they don’t measure out shots. You ask for a vodka and coke, half the glass will be vodka and the other half coke. I reckon we’ve got it right or we are just massive pussies.
Didn’t know it was your derby this weekend. I’ll tune into that. Have you got to go through that bubble **** as well?
Yeah ****ing dogshit mate. They've got to get to Fratton for 7:30 to get their coach. Will be a 7/8 hour day for a game 20 miles away. Dreading the return tbh, will ruin what should be the best away of the season.
Don't think I've read anything quite as stupid as this ... and I've read a lot in my lifetime ... Me using the internet is as equivalently dangerous as me having a loaded gun in my house? KDEN
