Something my Nana always done, she done it with my kids. Whenever I know someone who has just had a child, I turn up with a 50p coin for the kids palm and a banknote in my pocket to give them afterwards.

Yeah Middlesbrough is a huge industrial town, I’m not sure if you are aware but they’re known as the smoggies and that’s the reason why.

11 years, not long enough...when explained the circumstances of what he had caused during the interview, his reply was no comment. Should have got 20 years, to give him more time to dwell on his actions.

An unlicensed driver who inhaled laughing gas just moments before he killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash has been jailed.

Cain Byrne, 20, ignored a red light and was driving at more than 50mph when he crashed into 81-year-old Graham Slinn as he was walking his bike across the A57 near Todwick, in South Yorkshire.

Mr Slinn was thrown at least 15ft (4.5m) in the air and died at the scene of the crash on 4 April.

Yeah, I get young people can do reckless things, and I'd probably normally say that 11 years is reasonable, but for me it's about the remorse of the driver. Maybe the media are just painting a bad picture of him via selective clips, but for me it just seems he didn't care and he still don't care, hence why I think the sentence isn't enough...but that's the law I suppose.

Send the ****er to El Salvador

A British man who "dreamt about being like James Bond" has been found guilty of trying to spy for what he believed to be Russian intelligence service agents.

Howard Phillips, from Harlow, Essex, wanted to pass on personal information about former defence secretary Sir Grant Shapps.

The 65-year-old offered to help two agents called Sasha and Dima, but Winchester Crown Court heard they were actually undercover British intelligence officers.

Phillips, who was found guilty of assisting a foreign intelligence service under the National Security Act, will be sentenced at a later date.

Uniformed officers from North Yorkshire Police will no longer be able to take part in Pride events, the force chief has said.

The news follows a High Court ruling that the participation of uniformed Northumbria Police officers in a Newcastle Pride event last year was unlawful.

North Yorkshire Chief Constable Tim Forber said the only officers on duty and in uniform at future events would be those "actively engaged in policing the event".

He said: "It is absolutely essential that the police act impartially at all times and are seen to do so by all the communities we serve. Participating in protest activity, or parades that support any 'cause' can quite rightly undermine the public's confidence in that impartiality."

Mr Forber said: "Any North Yorkshire Police officer who wishes to 'participate' in a parade or lawful protest may do so, but they must be off duty and are not permitted to wear their uniform.

"I do not allow the altering of police uniform or the changing of the livery of police vehicles to show support for any cause."
