I quite like understanding people's behaviour, I probably would have enjoyed something like psychology. The kid we were chatting about sort of interests me because I'd like to understand how his parents experiences affected him in his growing up, or even before his birth is there some gene that is passed on when people go nuts. Probably a bit too bizarre and dark, but I don't automatically reach out to the reason for something, but prefer to understand its making instead. Obviouly remembering to be respectful because these were people's kids, so it shouldn't be seen as any sympathy for killer, nor as an excuse for his behaviour, it's just you can only change something, if you make the effort to understand what occurred, aside from the incident itself.

Loads of stuff coming out in the news about the killer, various referrals etc....sounds like he was a walking timebomb. I've often said the mental health help in this country is totally ****ed. And I'm sick to death of hearing it's the good to talk slogan - if it helps some then fine, but it;s how you get them to talk in the first place, how you get them to seek help, and when they do talk within MH facilities are you listening. I know for fact the mental health resources available around two decades ago were far better than we have now, especially with proper qualified psychologists, who know how to identify concerns and how to approach a variety of situations, it's failing system (not Kier's fault btw) then we only wake up when things like this happen....not for the first time. some of the slogans are just a banner that we can pat ourselves on the back for, because you are doing something, apparently.

As I've stated on here - I, personally, would be in favour of bringing back the death penalty for a crime like this - irrespective of the 'motivation'... but, rather like you, I also need to understand the facts / factors behind such heinous crimes ...

If he converted to Islam and this was an act of 'Jihad' etc then the authorities should just say so - and, as I said yesterday, have the Imans etc condemn it and confirm that such acts are not a road to 'martyrdom' but, instead, are actually contrary to Islamic teachings and can only lead to eternal damnation ... but most Jihadists seem to like to proclaim their actions with cries of 'God is Great' etc whilst committing their acts... there are no reports of that here ... and with no other evidence yet that he converted and became a practicing Muslim, I'm sceptical about that being his real motivation...

... but will happily hold my hands up and admit I was wrong if it is established that Islamic fundamentalist terrorism was behind the crime ...

I don't agree with the death penalty...but that dosen't mean it shouldn't be applied.

cba to get into some "discussion" about this but it was not a jihadist attack.
To call it terrorist is ok in one way as it caused "teror / outrage " but it doesn't fit the normal definition of terrorism of terror attacks for a idealogical / political purpose

Jihad attacks aren't organised all the time. Especially these days.

Often they are encouraged to be are lone cells and to act alone.

Thats why there's a downloadable manual

Suppose my answer to that mate, about it being downloadable, if you put a loaded gun on the table, what's the odds someone is going to use it, that's not religious based, it's just a means, especially if that person has violent tendency. Everyone had warnings he was a danger, that's not religions fault, that's the fault of those that monitored him. I'll agree there is a possibility it didn't help his parents having been part of the Rwanda atrocities even as a refugee or soldier/police and I'd be interested from a psychological perspective of what impact that had, and what lessons we learn from it.

I've said for years, we need to be careful when refugees come from countries of genocide, because they would have seen unimaginable events, and what psychologically preperations have we for this, let alone how do we know if they were involved in any genocidal killings. We can't even look after our own mentally ill, let alone someone from a country like that.

No dufus ... you really are Mr Thicky - they found loads of publications / articles / downloads in his possession with a common theme - they all focus on bringing death - many deaths - violent deaths ... but the only one registering in your rather dense nugget is the Al Quaeda one - not like you have any ingrained bias or prejudice eh? ...

Ergo - the guy is undoubtedly an undercover Muslim Al quaeda operative and attended secret Jihadi training camps behind a Lebanese restaurant in Oswaldtwistle...<doh>

Now don't go responding with common sense ... ain't gonna resonate with Mr Thicky for sure - coz Twitter says...

... but just for the record ... the murdering **** in question is of Rwandan heritage - less than 1% of Rwandans are Muslim - the biggest religion there by a country mile is Catholic - but Sucky knows for certain that Southport was all about Jihad! ... because this particular lowlife downloaded a terrorist document (amongst many) on how to kill people from the Internet <doh>

I was going to say about the loner bit, but obviously forgot to comment, because I can't see it as I read back...

The one thing I am surprised about is this loner terrorist thing that Starmer is saying is the new threat....a new threat wtf, this threat has been around for nigh on the last couple of decades, has everyone been asleep ffs. This isn't the first incident and certainly will not be the last. The mistake we made was pigeon-holing past attacks. Take the sale of knives, also used in attacks, what's been done, I'll tell you what's been done, a big **** all, that's what. It just demonstrates how out of touch our politicians of all parties are.

This is an American document from NIH talking about lone actors. I'm not expecting anyone to read it, just demonstrating that there are articles out there that clearly suggest lone actors is not a new thing, the document is from over 12 years ago... https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4217375/

Expanded article on the lad's background and his timeline with the various authorities right up to Southport ...

Might just be my take - but from this it seems apparent that he had an obsession with death and killing rather than any radicalisation by any particular group ... but it's all about opinions...

You don't need a book on how to carry out terrorist attacks. You have the online version, Twitter. :bandit:
