he does ,basically everyone who buys anything contributes . The idea that the NHS is financed thru NI payments is for the fairies . All taxation goes into Govt coffers and then flows out ( plus a bit these days) to wherever the Govt decrees .

They were obviously all a little drunk, so probably all it took for her to fall over.

He gets more money from the government than he pays in taxes- so is he really paying anything for the NHS when all is balanced out?

well if you go on net contributions loads don't including possibly me these days as my income is barely above the income tax allowance and i receive some benefits but this would also apply to low earners particularly those who rent and have children.

Maybe true, but people making very low incomes SHOULDN't be paying.

Kind of a tangent, but I've always thought it silly that government employees pay income tax... just make things simple and pay them less instead of pushing more numbers and imaginary money around a computer database than need-be.

considering how the NHS is funded everyone will be "contributing" as it is funded thru taxation and however poor you are you will pay some tax .
When i was younger and working in the public sector i thought they might as well give me tokens as nearly all my wages went on booze and ***s whose cost is mainly tax <laugh>

Then you would need a system that caters for both which would increase complexity and cost more.

You are also thinking everyone who works in government are permanent employees and that is their only job.

Good point, yes, I was assuming full time salaried employees with that comment. People doing gigs or part time work for government wouldn't make sense. Full time salaried employees for the government who do gigs outside of government work... just tax them for what they earn outside. No need to make it complex.

large numbers of staff in the DWP for example are on "contracts" which are less than full time so that again makes it no use .
