Am guessing it was all about the balance of the side. You could drop Brooks, and Bairstow was absolutely worth his place after the year he's had. The only available slot was opener or wicketkeeper so they've sacrificed a better keeper for a better batter. How much it will cost us will tell over time, but as it stands it's not been a great decisionI thought Foakes was extremely unfortunate to be dropped especially when he's contributed to the winning run England went on. And let's not forget that Bairstow was dropped from being wicketkeeper previously as it was thought he wasn't good enough there and should concentrate purely on batting
