Nowadays the typical batsman makes their money based on how high and far they can hit the ball. Why waste time perfecting the art of test cricket when all the money is in the hack and slash of 20/20 or 1 day cricket. Thats why the likes of Stokes best line of defence is to attack. Its his type of mentality which is swamping cricket and why a full 5 days of cricket rarely ends in a draw. I predict test cricket will end up being reduced to 4 days in order to attract the punters then may eventually get fazed out. The baseball style of modern cricket will fully take over. The Geoffrey Boycott style of cricket will bore the hell out of the average cricket fan today. Even more so in the future.

Stokes' best innings have pretty well all been when he has had a good look at the bowling, the pitch, the light. Today, he spotted a chance to get almost on terms tonight, and try and force a result. He was trying to win the game, not draw it, and there will be more of that to come.

Even as a young lad he was better when he spent time getting in. I saw him against Warwickshire once. Durham were four or five down for not many. He took at least an hour, got in, and then all hell broke loose, with windows going and supporters scattering. A big ton and Durham won.

He knows this, but he is completely unselfish and does what he can for the team. That's all that happened today, and I applaud it.

He really is mind. Bloody impossible to bowl against most of the time.
Sir Alistair Cook made a great (self-deprecating) point about his own record and how he struggled to get to 20 by lunch because he only had 2 shots, but Joe Root makes batting look easy
