ECB announced it publicly. Stokes told them, they told the world. He’s probably said “stick it up your arse.” As he knows they don’t have a team capable of winning big stuff at present. And we’re probably a distance from getting one. Or having a good captain!!

Ben poured himself into that job and dug them out of the biggest hole the team had ever been in. Months on end away from his family, millions of pounds from franchise cricket turned down, and the fat men in suits never really liked him.

He was too blunt, too ready to tell them how things were, and he quite rightly had never forgiven some of them for their attitude after Bristol, where they tried and convicted him before the actual court found him innocent.

I hope all is well with him, especially given the "things are going to happen in the next couple of days" bit in his speech.

But Thompson, Gould and Key, will just count their pension contributions.

Yep. Botha was too mouthy to be England captain! It’s a scenario a bit like Clough not being a yes man!

The passion Stokes has for the job is unbelievable. As you say, hope he’s ok, and I do imagine he’s said “go **** yourselves” to those you’ve mentioned!!
