I grew up with Test Match cricket, although Durham was a minor county in those days. I was thrilled watching Boycott,Edrich,Barrington,Trueman and Statham, together with Hunte,Sobers,Nurse,Butcher,Hall, Griffiths and Gibbs, Lawrie,Simpson, Mckenzie,Colin Bland and so on.The list can go on. What are our opinions on the future of Test Matches?. As I post this we are in the process of taking Sri Lanka apart in maximum 3 days.
For me, Test Cricket is the pinnacle of the sport and always my preferred format to attend. The game is dying in countries outside of the top 3 earners (Us, Aus & India) as more fans and players move towards the riches of white ball. Some countries just can't afford to stage test matches. More needs to be done to spread the revenues of the game to the smaller nations.
Totally agree mate. The main problem is that modern society won't wait for 5 days to see an outcome which might not even produce a winner. Sad!
I was at Lords for day 1 of the West Indies test. There was a healthy smattering of younger folk there. I think there will always be an appetite for test cricket in this country
