35 wickets and just shy of 1700 runs, fans let in free for day five.
Massive respect Trent Bridge, just about the perfect wicket and outfield for Test cricket, great attitude to the fans when they could have milked the final day for a relatively rare money making opportunity.
A result on day five when all possible results remain on the table, runs being scored and wickets falling fairly regularly, a few memorable performances….that’s what we need. Happens all too rarely in any era. We’ve swung a bit too far towards the 3 day Test end of things for my liking, but the bat forever and don’t try to win version was pretty dire as well.Brilliant letting people in for nothing. The age demographic looked much younger than for other days and they'll want to come back for more after today.
I know exactly what you meant when you talked about 'proper Test cricket' after the first innings, but this was light years away from the cricket we grew up with.
Take a look at this one...

1271 runs off 551 overs and just about crept into the second innings!
Have to say, if you wrote this as a script most would say no ****ing way!!
Both teams put on an unbelievable game and an unbelievable 5-day test match. performance after performance.
Turn after turn from day 1. Players challenged. Players failing. Players rising to the challenge. Players showing incredible skill and professionalism. Players coming out as hero’s to their peers, fans and to youngsters.
Amazing stuff. Absolutely riveting!
Well done England!!
only for certain teams in the future apparentlyBrilliant to see such a positive outlook on today’s test match cricket.
Well done to both teams for making it happen.
I’ve always said, test match cricket is the best.
