Stokes's captaincy was praised by Ponting for always seeking to do what the opposition wouldn't want you to do. The way England (apart from Stokes himself and now Bairstow) have played against the short ball was the opposite of that. By trying to hit every ball they were doing exactly what the Aussies did want them to.

Exactly. But Bazball is mainly out and out attack, which makes very good players look like village green sloggers. They have completely boxed themselves into a corner by saying that they will continue to attack no matter what, plus idiotic comments about winning this test by 150 runs, which is what Crawley apparently said before the test.
What you describe is proper, hard nosed aggressive test match cricket.
We can probably beat most sides playing kamikaze cricket, but Australia are just too good and streetwise imo.
Bairstow now slogs to mid on.

England are confused imho, for all it's worth. Playing a hybrid of test and T20 cricket might win you games against lesser teams, but Australia is keeping to a test match format and ruffling England feathers, or should that be mane? Bazball ain't working! (So far anyway).

No doubt, the England players will continue laughing and joking with the Aussies during their 2nd innings.
Another couple gone.

Pathetic.

Still an innings to go. Few wickets and England still in it.
Lyon is a big loss, especially as your lot are batting last.
