In fact, I didn't realise the score, you could well be leading by the end if the day.

We are going along at over 6 an over, if we’re still batting by the end we’ll be well past their score. Just hope Stokes doesn’t do a stupid declaration with 6 overs to go.

I hope we get to 350 and declare. Put the pressure on them. Weather forecast isn’t good so we need to force the issue. Time isn’t on our side.

Not sure that's a good idea, we need at least a 100 lead.

Even more preferably, grind them into the dirt.

No reason at all we can't get 500 pretty quickly and take it from there.

The Aussies are going to put the shutters up and bat for the draw. We need as much time to bowl at them as possible before the rain comes down.

I’d rather get beat forcing the result than let the game play out to a bore draw. Losing and drawing is the same end result for us here.

Yeah, it has been a great show of batting, hopefully you give them a good doing. Even if I didn't want England to win the Ashes then I would still want them to win this test to take it to the decider. How often does a team win the Ashes coming from 2 down? I take it that it isn't very common?

    I don’t think it’s happened before.

Edit: It’s happened once. Australia in the Don Bradman days.

They may well try to do that, but doing it from a 150-200 deficit is far more pressure than doing of from not far off level.

We're in, we're not far short of 300 already, we should make the runs now while we can. Then see what the weather does.

We could easily be 100+ ahead by close today. Three days left then.

A decider at 2-2 would be great

I’m assuming the weather is going to be bad on Saturday and Sunday. That would make this a 3 day game and we are over half way through.

If we go for a 200 lead. They’ll just say don’t worry about scoring runs. Just bat the days out, take no chances. If they’re behind by 50-70 runs they’ll be inclined to think they can turn it around and might be a bit more advantageous with the bat.

Aye mate. I’m in Liverpool now just along from Manchester and it’s been pissing down since about 4 this morning. Going to be on and off all day and won’t get started until after lunch. Saturday is a wash out. Sunday looks like the same.

Ladbrokes offering evens for the draw. Might walk up and put a couple hundred quid down in the next half hour.

Weather radar says all clear by 10.45 am.

Maybe a delay for a wet outfield?

Obviously the captain of the body line series was a Scotsman. Jardine, can't remember his first name.
