Just tuned in ... looks like I missed the fireworks ! Wonderful performance all round .. well done lads
Well, they did it, great performance all round. Brilliant. Please City don't spoil the day this evening.
Just switched on to see Root being interviewed. I'm thinking what? is it raining in Chennai? is it tea and Root's off injured? Just didn't occur to me we'd beaten them in 2 sessions. And as for that Anderson bloke well, must have got lucky, we all know he can only do it in UK conditions...
What a fantastic win. I'm guessing the plan was to rotate Anderson and Broad again on this tour - but might they have second thoughts after Anderson bowled so well here (and had to bowl fewer overs than expected)? He'll be itching to go out there again on Saturday.
I guess this pretty much guarantees that the deadly duo will be pairing up again... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/56031521
The 12 then for the 2nd test. Root Stokes Lawrence Sibley Burns Foakes (Wk) Woakes Pope Ali Leach Stone Broad
Moeen has something to prove, I thought his days as a test cricketer were over. Presume it will be Stone that misses out?
They may opt for Stone's pace over Woakes's steadiness. If they don't, we'll have a hell of an 8/9 batting combination with Moeen and Woakes.
Not sure about Ali, he hasn't done much of note of late. Personally, I would have stuck with Bess. I would go with Woakes, rarely lets you down with bat or ball.
Agree on Woakes. I think there will be a lot of bowling to do, and Woakes can handle a bigger workload than Stone. I would also have stuck with Bess. He did a lot right in the 1st test, and Ali has a lack of match practice.
Interesting choices. Woakes would be too similar to Broad and I'm sure he has an awful record in Asia. Selectors have realised we need a proper pace option in subcontinent, so will go for Stones with Broad. Interesting that Stokes has the best record in Asia of our pacemen (though need to watch his workload), so may need to do a bit more this test. Regarding Bess, I thought he inexplicably bowled terribly second innings in the First test. If the selectors believe Ali is ready to go again, I think at his best, he is probably ahead of Bess. He is that fragile though, if he suffered a similar onslaught Leach came back from in the !st test, it would have finished Ali for the series.
I see they have 17000 crowd in the same stadium they had none just last week! Doesn't seem to be a lot of social distancing and few masks. They have some stands looking packed and others lay empty. Very odd.
