Sad to think that summer is over but what a wonderful summer of sport it's been....

To win the world cup and draw the series 2-2 I think most of us would have taken that........well ok Eric might not have done....but it's been a fabulous series l.

Smith has been the glue that has held the Aussies together and I'll miss the twice weekly removal of Warner by Broad....saw a figure that Warner was 35/7 against Broad....what a performance.....

What might have been but for the weather at Lord's when England were 4 wickets short of winning.....claim a moral victory I think

Retained the Ashes and a great competition, did you win the world cup? I thought that NZ did

Shame he did it against Somerset, never having won the Championship, top of the table for most of the season and then blow it on the penultimate match. Somerset now have to beat Essex in season finale whereas Essex would be champions with a draw. I go to our site in Taunton once a week, could be busier next week!

England back in Test match action tonight. 14/0 off 4 against NZ after winning the toss and batting.

I've been out of touch with the cricket lately and didn't even realise this was on, cheers Strolls. I've got it on now ... Who's Sibley?

Sibley scored a load of first class runs for Warwickshire in the summer. He hit his first ball for four, so not a bad way to start your first Test.

I've just had a quick read up on him on the beeb site ...

'I can't remember him giving his wicket away once'

As impressive as Sibley's County Championship stats were this season, quite possibly the most important figure the England selectors discussed was the number of balls he faced: 3,024.

It was 50% more than the next most obdurate batsman, former Test captain Alastair Cook - arguably England's greatest and a man who forged a career on being prised from the crease.

Batting for long periods is a skill Sibley has had since childhood, and one which was evident again when he made 100 in England's opening warm-up match against a New Zealand XI.

"He just loves batting. His biggest strength is his appetite for run-scoring," says Surrey director of cricket Stewart.

He sounds like an ideal opener to me. Let's hope he fits the bill and learns quickly. This should be a good test series. Just hit another four as I type.

We're not going to see a lot of fireworks from this top three.

Maybe not, but we need to create some stability from the first three batsmen. If Sibley can anchor them then maybe Burns and Denley can play some shots and play their natural game a bit further down the line. We need to try and build a solid base and go from there. Something we haven't had for a while.

I already like the look of Sibley. Slowly slowly and all that.
