When you look at England’s batting line up, it’s not good very good at Test level. Top order very inexperienced, and even of the experienced ones only Root averages over 40 in Test cricket. The bowlers have had to do most of the work in the last few years. Still, 85 all out against Ireland was not expected.........
Ah lads, cricket is such a minority sport over here. I am sure England will still win but 85 runs???? That is equivalent to you guys beating us at half time in a hurling match. Any chance we can have our World Cup winning captain back to help out?
I reckon England, even with a lot of changes would have struggled against anyone after that incredible World Cup win. Very much "after the Lord Mayor's show" and hard to get up for the game.
Also, as Ashley Giles has admitted, they have focussed entirely on one day cricket for England over the last few years, and the Test set up has suffered ‘a bit’ as a consequence. If you are a professional who want to play in the Ashes surely motivation cannot be an issue?
It shouldn't. But you know as well as I do that the subconscious takes over a bit, no matter how much you tell yourself how important it is.
I just think we have a weak batting line up for Test cricket Col, Root aside. Although it should be good enough to score more than 85 against Ireland. I’m hoping Roy comes good, he needs a run in the team. Today is obviously an aberration, I think it’s quite evenly balanced against the Aussies, two teams that are not quite there, but home advantage should tell.
The way this is going, England could be batting again tonight. They'd then need to bat for at least a day and a half for me to see any cricket on Saturday.
It’s going to be 37C/99F in London tomorrow. I don’t think I’d want to be there unless I was in an air conditioned box with draught beer. I certainly wouldn’t want to be playing.
Dimwit thinking by England . Delay things and don't get the last wicket till 650pm. Instead they now have to face one nervy over.
The Lords square is getting a lot of criticism. Seems the new drainage may be drying it out too much. Always seems a bit dodgy these days.
