Fair enough, I was convinced they sold at least one in the summer.

They still let 3 or 4 of the highest earners go in the summer so the wage budge is smaller than it was, and it's not as if Nick is going to be on a massive wage.

fact is cheshire, crewe don't have to sell. that doesn't mean they won't though!
he seems like he'd be a great signing for whoever comes in for him, of that there can be little doubt. ok there is no guarantees but he definitely seems to have something about him <ok>

mind you, i bet most ipswich fans are more interested in the pompey pair at the moment. that jason pearce looks a terrific defender, not so sure about joel ward. pearce looks like he could do a job in the premier league already - i bet they would want £2m+ for him alone! those two are far more important to ipswich's survival chances than a 17 year old prospect i would have thought.

had to laugh at the pompey fans on another thread who said it was outrageous that ipswich were trying to sign their players. what, is it illegal to bid for players now??? <laugh>

Agree superman. Pearce for me is the biggy and could be the difference for us!! Though whats the betting we sign him and then he gets injured for the rest of the season!! Haven't seen much of them but I've seen a bit of the Joel ward, he looks decent, not sure his best position though and would be interesting to see where we would use him if he did come!!

Other interesting news which could effect us is Leicester has bid for Wes Morgan, which could pave the way for the St. Ledger deal or we could bid for him aswell, always thought he's looked decent.

I have no idea what those pompey fans were about, I mean really what are they on about!!!

ptc, i don't rate st ledger at all i'm afraid. if you get him i'd say its touch and go as to whether he's any better than what you already have. meanwhile, i've got a mate down in portsmouth, and although he's a norwich fan he often goes and watches pompey. he thinks pearce could end up playing for england one day - not too sure about that but he's obviously rated very highly which makes your bid a little farcical. meanwhile, he compared joel ward to daryl sutch! <yikes>

make of that what you will...

I have not seen much of St Ledger tbh and have heard mixed reviews on him, much like when we signed McAuley but IMO he would certainly be better than anything we have already got, have you seen our CB's?? When i said he looked decent I actually meant Morgan not St Ledger!!!

Its laughable when you consider that we have offered Crewe over a £1 Million for this kid and yet we have only offered Portsmouth £1 Million for TWO of their best players!

i've seen them sporadically ptc... they usually get sent off before i've had time to assess them <laugh>

wes morgan when he first burst on to the scene looked like he'd be class. not too sure what happened. he came through at a similar time to dawson at forest and although dawson was always the better, there wasn't that much in it! i think he's still a decent defender, so long as he has someone else good alongside him. can't see him going to leicester though - not sure such a prominent forest player will go there but i suppose stranger things have happened!

    cheeky bid for morgan perhaps?

It is a bit of a cheeky offer but with the situation which Portsmouth are in I geuss it was worth at least testing the water, there's nothing wrong with that.

Not sure what will happen now particularly regarding the clubs situation, just read this:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16652130.stm

The colapse of a deal for them could work a few ways for us in regard to Ward and Pearce. Either they could be desperate to sell with no money coming in or it could delay any possible deal, meaning other clubs may likely to get involved aswell. Although the guy who is meant to be buying apparently wants to reduce the wage bill, so it might be good for us that a deal gets done as quickly as possible.

    he has now withdrawn

    http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/p...ala_withdraws_his_bid_to_buy_pompey_1_3442323

I hope this means they are desperate to sell... as we are desperate to buy
