http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/crewe_alexandra/8715896.stm And just to confirm Crewe are in the mire financially: http://www.thisisstaffordshire.co.uk/Crewe-Alex-Davis-faces-balancing-act-transfer/story-14345572-detail/story.html The latter (and more recent) link makes it sounds as if they are willing to let him go if the right money is offered
sven, neither of those articles show that crewe are in the mire. as a league two club they are better positioned than almost all the others. that doesn't mean they won't sell at some point but as davis states himself, if a sizeable offer comes in then it would be considered. they are not under any pressure to sell though. all clubs who are wary of interest from big clubs will put this sort of statement out for fans. they do not have to sell is the point i was making and are not in a position where they will accept any old offer. the david dein link is odd don't you think!! thats probably because it is talking about dean ashton!!!!!
Haha, that will teach me not to skim read articles! However I stand by the second article suggesting their financial difficulties will lead them having to sell Powell.
looks like one of those typical 'prepare fans for the worst, just in case an offer too good to refuse comes in' article rather than a 'we're hard up and need the money' stories to be honest, and as i say above, crewe are actually very well run and not in desperate need of money. thats why i said if a big offer comes their way they'll probably take it, although if that offer comes from you guys, expect all the big boys to come in and gazump you. i'm not trying to have an argument about it but it would be a bizarre move for one of the hottest 17 year old properties outside the top flight
Leave Crewe's youngsters and ours alone as well. Get a good academy, or stop poaching other club's academy produce. Your manager is, quite frankly, a disgrace in trying to sign Pearce and Ward from us, thinking he'll get them on the cheap because of our ongoing situation
What are you on about? Are we not aloud to bid for other players anymore? In any case it was your manager who made the bid public knowledge. Maybe you should be asking questions of his actions rather than ours.
Pompey_Fan_London You stupid twat, this is football, we have lost good players for next to nothing like many other teams, thats football!!
now i'm not one for backing up ipswich fans but what the hell is the pompey fan on about?!?! they have every right to put in a legal approach for two of your players!
For once Spanish I agree that your language was appropriate!! What the hell are these pompey fans all about, morons??
It's not like the vultures weren't circling around Portman Road when we were in administration. Any club in financial trouble is going to get picked on by clubs with money, don't cry Pompey fans.
I think I may be fairly well placed to comment on this, given that I had a Crewe season ticket last year, was in the same year at school as Nick and my Dad used to work with his! As I understand it, he is Crewe's best player by a mile, and they have no intentions of selling him. The new manager, Steve Davis, has stated that he is not for sale, and it is of paramount importance to Crewe's "promotion push" that he stays. As for finances, Crewe aren't exactly rich, but they are a very stable, well run club. They sold/let-go 4 of their best players in the summer, in order to cut down on wages, and as a result aren't desperate to sell. Nick will be a Premier League and England player in his career, of that I'm certain. However, he (or should that be Dario Gradi) would much prefer to stay with Crewe and play first team football and continue his footballing education, rather than sit in the reserves of a Premier League team. I also highly doubt that he would want a move to the Championship, but don't quote me on that! In short, he would be a quality signing for the future, but I'd be very surprised (and slightly jealous ) if he went anywhere in this window. The summer might be a different matter.
On another note, Chris Wood has ended his loan spell at Birmingham and gone to Bristol City, could have been worth a punt, although obviously attention is focussed elsewhere. Obviously we need to sure up the defence, but do we think Jewell will be splashing the cash for a proven striker, or is it Scotland, Chops and Ellington for the remainder of this season?
CREWE boss Steve Davis has poured cold water on speculation Ipswich Town have made a bid for teenage hot property Nick Powell. The Championship strugglers were reported yesterday to have made a beeline for the England under-17s forward, who has scored six goals in 20 appearances for the Alex this season. News coming out of East Anglia even suggested Town boss Paul Jewell had had an offer rejected. But Davis said: "It's the first I've heard of it. My phone is always on and no-one has been in contact with me. There have been no inquiries, never mind offers. "I'm in close contact with the chairman (John Bowler). "We speak every day, so I know no-one has been in touch with the club to ask about Nick." Powell has been linked with moves to bigger clubs almost since he was first selected for the international under-16s squad in late 2009. A parade of scouts from the Premier League and Championship have watched his progress with interest this campaign, although Crewe have repeatedly said they believe he is best served staying with them, for the time being. The former Sandbach School student has already made 42 senior appearances and will only turn 18 in March. However, Davis has previously admitted financial pressures at the club could force his hand over sales during this month's transfer window. The cash-strapped Railwaymen have not generated any transfer revenue since the joint £1m sale of John Brayford and James Bailey to Derby in May, 2010. But the manager said: "I've not been thinking much about Nick interesting other clubs, I've been busy preparing the team for the games we have ahead. "It was the same when I was a player myself when you would hear rumours linking you with another club. More often than not, nothing happened. This seems like they would sell to me and totally goes against what CheshireCanary has said, stupid Budgie aint got a clue!!
Well, this was in the local paper about 2 weeks ago. Of course, the situation might have changed but I highly doubt it. http://www.creweguardian.co.uk/lex/9457149.Too_early_for_Nick_to_leave/ It doesn't say that they won't sell, just that they don't want to. As I said, he's probably their best player, so it will take a large bid to change their minds.
