This is literally going around in circles. It's become a pointless debate, as atheists/agnostics are asking for evidence of a God, religious are saying that evidence isn't needed. WRT is asking the same question hundreds of times, he's getting the same response. Nobody's going to change their minds. I'm Catholic, I'm happy with that, and I hope that everyone else on here is happy with their belief, God or not, religion or not.
 
I don't think I've asked hundreds of times. I just want to know why RebelBhoy first claimed that his 'evidence' (<laugh>) WAS contemporary, then changed his mind and said that there shouldn't be any contemporary evidence anyway.

i just want to know why you believe in the historical jesus in one sentence and then change your mind. A pretty dramatic shift.

Liar. I explained previously what my position was. You are clinging to a statement I made previously that I shared the opinion of another poster, which I then realised differed from my own. I told you this several pages back, and yet you repeatedly tell me that I have changed my mind. Broken record springs to mind.

Jersey mate if you truly believe you don't need evidence to back up your faith your faith is flawed as it is based on nothing.

As you have nothing solid to base your faith on.
You can't go into modern schools and teach lies and say you have to take this on faith kids!
Your faith doesn't have the right to deny scientific fact and over ride it with dogma.

Not one of the believers on this thread has come up with one piece of evidence to back up your faith.

Your faith is based on the teachings in the Bible, by the Son of God (one of hundreds claiming it at the time), a God who thought nothing of committing genocide or having fathers kill their own children.

The uneducated peoples of the time needed something to explain what they found unexplainable, what better than an all powerful being that NO ONE can see.

A vicious vindictive God who insists you believe in him or off to hell you go. (I know you're only young, you do know hell awaits after all your ****ing! :p)
If he was the God of love spouted by the church why doesn't he wave his hand whilst showing himself, cure all the worlds ills in one fell swoop?
No one could deny Him then and peace would reign over the Earth! <ok>
(Back to taking it on faith. :( )

A recent post mentioned some thing about the amount of money and subsidies the church gets.
I personally would tax them to the hilt, just like any other business.
I would also take back all the lands they have appropriated over the years.
If they want land and buildings make the believers pay.
The amount of people going to church has dropped dramatically in these more enlightened times, if they had to pay huge chunks out of their wages to keep these unneeded and outdated churches going, they would fall even more.
Don't forget Jesus said you are more likely to be listened to by God whilst praying in private. Not in churches built to satisfy mans vanity! (Oh and create damn good jobs for the boys :) )

Dawkins is an evolutionary scientist and highly respected too (Oxford Uni etc) - The God Delusion is a fascinating read and makes a very strong case in favour of evolution and then dismantles alternative arguments such as the involvement of this God chappie. I found it quite persuasive, in-at-least for making the case for evolution considerably more plausible than creation/design.

I believe you get a better perspective on the main arguments for atheism from Bertrand Russell's timeless essay 'Why I am not a Christian"

I don't think there's anything wrong with parents teaching their children what they believe, one of the Christian marriage vows is to teach your faith to your children (or words to that effect)

I cannot agree with this. As someone posted WAYYY BACK on this thread 'Each to their own' er, NOOOOOOOOO!

Sorry but the problem with 'belief' is that it can be harmful. What if someone you knew sent their children to Hitler Nazi Propaganda School, Holy Jihad School or Klu Klux Klan school?
 
Being new to the site I was suprised and pleased to see threads on none football matters such as this one. I then asked myself the questions, do I join in, why was the subject brought up? Other thoughts have been examined in the course of the last twenty four hours and a decision taken.

When I was a schoolboy we had studies on the Druids and a book to go with those studies. The first three paragraphs of the book stated that we knew very little about those people. The rest of the book had us believing in them and what they did according to the writer. The theory of evolution follows the same principle. Darwin started the origin of the species from observing life forms but not from the origin of life. Most scientist do not now go along with this theory though it is still taught in our education establishments. The origin of life as we know it is a cause of vigorous debate in many accedemic circles and no firm conclusion has been agreed upon.

Now let us look at God from a believers perspective. If he wanted to create the universe in six days he could have done this given who he is or as some would say who he claims to be or who his followers claim him to be. I remember the first time man landed and walked on the moon. A little known fact is that the module that landed had telescopic legs, why? The scientist had calculated the ammount of fine dust that would be on the surface of the moon in the millions of years that it had been in orbit, it came to yards. On landing it was found that there was less than an inch of dust, pointing to a young creation of ten to fifteen thousand years ago sending the scientific community into turmoil. God could have created life where and when he wanted and how he wanted to.

Brainwashing. If teaching Christianity is brainwashing so is teaching an unprovable theory of evolution. How can it be explained that people who have never even heard about Jesus see him in dreams and visions, he speaks to them? This is a daily occurence and a world wide thing. How is it that over two billion people world wide accept Christianity as their faith? Most people in the world have some form of faith even if is not Christianity, few are athiests. Do these facts not tell us that mankind has a capacity to worship something or someone? Where did this come from?

Wars are started through religeon is an often quoted saying. The first three wars in the twentieth century were caused by raw materials, expansion ww1 and roughly the same in ww2. Christianity has caused few wars in our country for centuries and our civil wars had a good mix of politics as well. Nine eleven was not the fault of the USA, the after math may be.

I do not wish to argue for arguing sake but to take part in a debate. I have raised some questions, not all can be answered with certainty. I have faith, well at the moment following Doncaster Rovers requires faith. Dave.
