For me it's not about the Messi's and Ronaldo's. They are the 2 absolutely outstanding footballers of their generation. No-one else comes even close IMHO. It's the hundreds, of often largely anonymous players making up the majority of a lot of Premiership squads who could and should be reigned in wages wise. The trouble is that if you cant introduce a cap to cover all players, then it wont work, and as long as clubs give their players, expensive cars, houses, access to corporate jets etc as incentives as part of their overall packages, then it's not easily stopped. Clubs will always find a way to bend the rules.
The Bosman ruling was the worst thing to happen in Football in recent years in that it deprived the lesser clubs of the revenue stream needed to survive. The inevitable consequence is we will see an increasing stream of larger clubs chasing the dream and going bust. Clearly we need to review the model under which football operates in this country decide what we want and change. There is a belief that the Premiership is the best league in the world but international performance indicates that our style of football is not the best
