As I have said before, I follow Peterborough as well as supporting Newcastle. And they have a striker named Craig Mackail-Smith who I think would be perfect in our squad. He is only 26 and has the best work rate I have ever seen. He will not hesitate to chase down a lost cause, and is an excellent finisher. He has a brilliant football brain so would be able to make the runs onto Shola's/Best's knockdown in a way Lovenkrands never could. He scores plenty, even in the Poshs woeful season in the Championship.
His strike partner Aaron Mclean was signed by Hull for £1.3 mill earlier this season, and most of his goals were set up by CMS. If Peterborough don't get promotion this season we could probably sign him for £2-3 mill, which would be an absolute bargain.
Oh and he also looks like a fusion of Dirk Kuyt and Jimmy Bullard.

What do you think?

He was awesome against Southampton, who lets face it are basically a CCC team.
And he was brilliant against us at London Road last season, and we were effectively a EPL team.
And two years ago he played great against WBA in the Carling Cup, and they were an EPL team at the time.

Do you need me to give any more examples, or is that enough...

so a good game against us, southampton and Wba........sign him up.....

Seriously tho, he had a tough time last season, boyd then shipped out to the florists, mclean spitting his dummy out.... He didnt exactly step up to the plate did he....

You must know some of the most unloyal Posh fans ever then.

A few weeks ago I looked on theposh.com for some injury news and found a vote where CMS was the third most popular among fans (After Charlie Lee and Joe Lewis), ahead of George Boyd, Grant McCann, Chris Whelpdale etc.

Reminds me of one fat guy sitting in the row behind me at Stockport earlier this season. He hurled abuse at Lewis, all of the back 4, all of the midfield when he could, and then managed to grab Gary Johnson's attention at the halfway line, and let him know just what he thought of the teams performance with some words I wouldn't repeat even if I was the last person left on the Earth...

He was thrown out, got fiesty, nearly hit the policeman, was sexist towards a female steward and was finally arrested and taken away in a reinforced police van.

No, I don't live in Peterborough. As the location says, I am from North Wales (thats why my user name is Welsh - pronounced Gogleth Cum-ree) so I go to away games in the NW (Stockport, Tranmere etc) but have been to a few games at London Road with my Dad (Newcastle last season was the most recent) so know roughly whats what there.

I really should pay more attention <doh>. Mclean and CMS linked up well together, especially in the 08/09 season, they were unstoppable. Saying that, CMS is probably a Championship level player at best.

CMS what can I say about him, he's vastly improved this season, if you want a player that gives his all for the whole game, incredible work rate, and scores goals look no futher.

My only concern is the step up to the Prem, he'd be a top half Champ striker now

I love CMS more than you Toons he's given us four years of excellent service no tantrums with all our upheavals just got his head down and worked and worked, all that a he's a great guy away from the game

He deserves a higher level whether thats with us in the Champ next season oe elsewhere

If he leaves then my dissapointment would be less if he joined my Toon friends, but Ashley don't deserve him

Still think theres more to Carroll leaving you no doubt your pieman has muddied the waters

I think Craig may have found his level to be honest. I went to school with Craig (albeit a few of years below me) and he played for a local non-league team that I used to sometimes go and watch before he move o Dagenham and he wa always a handy player but I never looked at home and thought he was Premiership quality.
