i bet he wishes he could have his time again.

He stayed with p'boro to finish off promotion with them. he then went to brighton an they had quite a good start to the season, but now look where they are. 11th in the league with 32 points from 23 games. only 1 point ahead of CMS's old team. if he had stayed with them no doubt they would have picked up a few more points. he has scored 6 league goals so far this season out of 23 compared with his 27 from 46 last season. he is way behind if he plans to beat this tally. rumours where that we made a bid for him last jan and he reject us. What a fool.

I have never rated Mackail Smith. All he does is take the odd chance out of 5 or so whereas Lambert creates chances as well as scoring a hell of a lot more!

All he does is run about like a headless chicken, never wanted him here tbh.

He looks slow in the championship as well, he could outpace League One defenders, but seems to have hit his ceiling in the championship. He scored a lot of goals last season but disagreed with him winning player of the year, IMO he wasn't the best player in League One last season.

He would have been a good option as a sub. But no doubt he'd have blown a fuse if put on the bench frequently

I rated him, and I still do rate him. However, not as a main goalscorer (at this level any way), and not as a £3 million player.

I'd have happily paid £1.5 million for him at the start of the season, to partner Lambert.

There was a time when I would have been happy to have CMS at Saints, but not now. His game is not Saints game. In my opinion, there are several aspects to his game that are very good indeed, but Saints would not make use of them. Besides, at Championship level his skills are not sufficiently outstanding to be a real alternative to Saints, already successful, method of winning a game.

I believe we offered around that last January and Barry Fry told us where to go. It's no big loss.
