The sun are today linking us with a free transfer for Craig Gordon. Although not the most reliable source in the world I think he could be a very good addition for us. Even if his wages are a bit on the steep side. Thoughts?

IMO there is no point. He hasn't played for 18 months will want big wages and unless he is going to usurp KD straight away he will just block the development of Gazza and Cropper.

Would he want big wages though? I would imagine he wants to play football more than anything else so his wage demands may not be that high.

Fair point Tom but there has to be a reason that he's still not found a club. It's either injuries or wages.

Not necessarily. Even if Gordon doesn't play (I think he probably would but even if he doesn't...) he'll sit on the bench, meaning one or both of Gazza and Cropper can go out on loan. I imagine Gazza in particular would learn more from a few games in League One or the Championship than he will sitting on the bench at St Mary's.

Unless he was signed on a long-term contract with spectacularly high wages (which I think we're unlikely to offer) I can't see too many negatives here?

Gordon has done reasonably well in the Premiership in the past and, despite his poor luck with injuries, there's no reason to believe he can't play well again. We currently have Davis who's played in the Premier League before and been poor and - despite doing well at a lower level for the last few years - hasn't done particularly well so far this season, Gazza who's played half a season in League 2 and Cropper who (as far as I know) has never played a senior game.

Even if you don't think Craig Gordon is better than Kelvin Davis signing him gives you two experienced goalkeepers and means at least one of the two youngsters can go out on loan to get experience. It just makes sense.
