Not mega-cheap i'll grant you. But if Henderson is worth £16m then I think £5m is a fair price for somebody of Gardner's quality. Cabaye was cheaper but that is the european discount whereas there is always a premium on british players. But yeah not a bad price all in all.

With Barton's contract expiring, speculation about Nolan's future, Gosling's injury problems, Richardson not being ready YET.. then I could see why we are in for Gardner. Good price(5m being reported), versatile(can cover RB/RM/LM I think), is a goalscoring midfielder(replacement for Nolan) & has got good PL experience. Excellent squad player to have IMO & would be a good option to have on the bench because of his versatillity. This must mean Barton/Nolan or both will be released/sold respectively. <yikes>

Think it would be good to keep an English core to the team, if Nolan & Barton are going then Gardner would do that, if Nolan goes for £4M or so it's only(yeah only) an extra £1M on top of that.

Not as good either IMO & not English, yes proven PL record but was hardly a shining light in a poor relegated side, I think Gardner at least had a bit about him.

He was, 8 goals from midfield in a relegated team isn't bad at all, £5mil for a young British player is fairly cheap so wouldn't mind seeing him come.

I wouldnt be too happy about his signing, would prefer johnson or dann or keep the 5mil for other players

Gardner is a solid player but newcastle united are on the rise and we shouldnt be looking at guys like gardner anymore, he is not good enough for us.
