I was hoping for a really good discussion on Saturday night's local boxing action on this thread but the resident *****loid has ruined it.

Anyway, for what it's worth,I reckon Campbell will have too much class for Coyle.Tommy is just a stepping stone for bigger and brighter things for Hull's resident Olympic gold medallist.

Can't wait for Coyle vs Campbell now. Just want the tickets to come out.

It will be a sell-out, no doubt.

I love both of them, but come on Luke.

Yeah, I think so. I think they're both great lads and a credit to the city, but I'd probably want Campbell to win simply because I think he's more likely to cut it at a higher level, possibly going on to become world champion. I'm not sure Tommy is quite up to that.

I think Coyle uses a lot of unecessary energy that makes him look more effective than he is. There's no arguing Coyle's heart or desire, but Gethin's calmer and more measured approach showed how someone with Campbell's greater technique and hand speed should be able to handle him, provided he doesn't get dragged into a war.

kinell being brutally honest he's not even British champion class. He was knocked out by Matthews, a journey man fighter. Its all hype.

Campbell has a lot of potential but he needs to get his arse moving. He's 27.

I saw Thomas at the Liverpool game, he was in the Premier Lounge or whatever it's called.

    Eating pie, gravy and chips.

I wonder if Golovkin has a similar diet?

The date has now been announced, there's a press conference later this week for full details.

My daughters engagement party is on that night, she rang me last week to tell me that if I went to the boxing, I was banned from the wedding.

I hope she has a nice day. <laugh>

Pity it's at Craven Park, the KC's a much better venue.

The idea of it not being at the KC is ridiculous.

    They're not...

Tommy Coyle versus Luke Campbell mega fight is on

please log in to view this image

TOMMY Coyle and Luke Campbell will meet in one of the biggest sporting events ever staged in the city after finally agreeing terms on what has become a grudge match between the friends.

The Mail can exclusively reveal the two lightweight boxers will face each other at the KC Lightstream Stadium on Saturday, August 1 as the headline fight on a packed televised bill staged by Matchroom Sport.

Having been on a collision course for the past year, the eagerly-anticipated clash was in danger of being taken out of Hull after a failure to secure the preferred venue of the KC Stadium.

Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn had put plans in place to stage the bout between the former St Paul's ABC team-mates in Sheffield as part of a huge show topped by world champion Kell Brook.

However, an agreement has now been reached between Matchroom, the respective boxers, Hull City Council and the board at Hull KR that will allow the event to go ahead in east Hull this August.

Extra spice has been added to the fight in recent weeks with the two friends falling out over an article given by Olympic champion Campbell which was critical of Coyle.

Campbell, 27, will start as favourite to win the contest and extend his 11-fight unbeaten record after taking the professional ranks by storm since leaving behind an amateur career that saw him become the most successful British boxer of all time.

Two years younger than Campbell, Coyle has far greater professional experience with 23 contests and a history of tough fights behind him.

Loyalties are set to be divided in the city with Hessle Road's Campbell taking on Coyle in his east-Hull home.

The Mail understands details of the event could be revealed this week, with a host of homegrown talent set to join the city's two leading lights on a packed bill that will also include British stars from the Matchroom stable of boxers.
