The vaccine will protect you from getting ill and then ending up hospitalised. But it's possible that you could still carry the virus and be contagious to others. So those who get the vaccine should still be wearing masks and practicing physical distancing.
Once the day come when everyone has had the opportunity to have a vaccine, it could prove to be wishful thinking that people who have been vaccinated will continue to socially distance and wear a mask to give COVID protection to people who have refused the vaccine. Based on current public behaviour, anyway.
A friend of mine is a Production Editor at the BBC This week they have been doing an outside broadcast at Raymond Blancs La Manoir (nice work if you can get it). 30 OB staff and very strict protocols... 3 of them asymptomatic (younger late 20's to mid 30's) all tested positive.
COVID-19 alert Common questions Should people who have had Covid get the vaccine? People who have had COVID-19 may still benefit from a vaccine because we don't know how long immunity lasts after you get better.
T cell immunity for the original Sars virus as being found in patients 17 years later so hopefully it does last for some while for people that have had covid 19 previously which by now a significant proportion of the country, outside of vulnerable groups why would anyone want a vaccine when the body's own immune system works just fine ? https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2550-z
yes im being deadly serious i and many of my workmates never been so chilled in all our lives. its certainly opened a new way of thinking about how to spend the rest of my time in this planet as opposed to the daily grind with all the anxiety and depression that brings. i cba to research but i would be interested in how much of a reduction there was in road accidents and deaths at work. if im wrong i hold my hands up but surely thousands of lives have been saved? and i am talking about the uk. lifestyles are different in other countries and i dare say some third world counties didnt have an enforced lockdown. edit well i am amazed. there are only a hundred or so deaths at the workplace a year in the uk. i cannot believe the figure is so low. maybe thats because nowadays everyone is at home commiting suicide.
Dropped again. Most places are now starting to “rise”. According to the BBC numbers, ours will go up tomorrow to 200 again so it’ll be interesting to see if we rise in the table too compared to those around us. I say “rise” as it’s now being encouraged for all (even without symptoms) to go for tests so those that were going unnoticed may now be caught and added to the figures. This “rise” will obviously happen again in January when they start testing in Secondary Schools and Colleges too.
The figures may well be skewed by use of rapid flow testing - out of 630 positive results reported in Liverpool only 230 were actually positive - 400 were eventually recorded as false positives. Such results, if repeated, may be artificially increasing the numbers. But, bearing in mind that the tests failed to detect almost half of the cases, the final figure provided might not be too far off the mark.
Exclusive: Green light for Oxford coronavirus vaccine before new year (telegraph.co.uk) The Oxford vaccine is expected to be approved within days of Christmas, kickstarting a massive drive to give jabs to millions of people in January. Senior Whitehall sources believe the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) will authorise the vaccines on December 28 or 29 after final data is provided to the regulator on Monday. Football stadia and other sites across the country will then be opened from the first week of January, to allow mass vaccinations on a scale never seen before in the UK. However, the progress comes amid growing fears that England is about to enter a third lockdown, with the Prime Minister recently refusing to rule out following Wales and Northern Ireland in such a course of action. Last week the NHS began the first Covid-19 vaccination programme in the world, with jabs given to around 140,000 elderly people and health and care workers in the first seven days. This week the rollout has expanded far more widely, with around 400 GP centres now involved, as well as 83 hospitals. Over the weekend, the total number of Britons who have received the jab is expected to pass the 500,000 mark. By next week, more than 200,000 people a day should be receiving jabs, equating to well over one million doses a week by Christmas. Once the Oxford jab gets the green light, the opening of mass vaccination centres will mean this can be increased to several million doses a week, Whitehall sources say. It means Britain is on course to vaccinate the 20 million most vulnerable people by March, allowing far greater release of restrictions, with the prospect the whole country could be vaccinated by summer. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...oronavirus-vaccine-expecting-approval-within/
As only 1,800 people are killed on the roads each year even a 100% reduction in road deaths would make little difference in the scheme of things.
*** COVID-19 NEWS *** PRIME MINISTER TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE AS COVID CASES RISE REPORTS SUGGEST HE COULD BRING IN A TRAVEL BAN It’s just been announced the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will hold a press conference this afternoon as cases of COVID-19 rose across south-east England.
Looks like the new variant of Covid is now a concern hopefully about transmission rather than it’s potential. Virus mutations happen all the time but I think today’s announcement could be a forewarning about the 5 day period over Christmas relaxation being either totally changed or cancelled.
