Fair enough - I thought he was back to his best today, flicking accurate long passes across the pitch and all-action to break up play. He also worked really well with Giannoulis, I thought, not interplay and covering the left back position when Giannoulis burst forward. Oddly, I thought the slight hiccups today came from Hanley (though he was pretty imperious in the second half) and to a lesser degree Gibson. I occasionally thought Buendia was wasteful, but in retrospect I am pretty sure it was more just he was absolutely everywhere and trying every single magic trick that the odd one didn’t land
One potentially bad thing about the result! Does this mean the awful cycling shirt and shorts will be dubbed a ‘lucky kit’?
We have averaged 2 points a game with 16 games to go. 18 points above 7th. Next 3 games all look winnable before a home game against Brentford on the 3rd of March. Whilst the Brentford game will be one we won't want to lose, it does look quiet the key game it did a week ago. Form 11 points from last 6 games. 4 points above Brentford who have lost their last 2 games. Form 12 points from last 6 games. 5 points above Swansea who have 2 games in hand. They would need to win both games to go a point above us. They are the only other team in the league who are averaging 2 points per game. Form 16 points from last 6 games. 7 points above Watford. Form 11 points from last 6 games. 10 points above Reading. Form 8 points from last 6 games. 12 points above Bournemouth. Form 7 points from last 6 games. At this time I think there is a 99.999999 % chance of us finishing in the top 6, a 70 % chance of us finishing in the top 2 and a 50% chance of us winning the league.
Earlier in the season, to help managing squad minutes over a compressed season. In practice despite having a large squad, we've probably not benefited from the policy. We can't tire out opponents in quite the same way when they can change half their starting XI. And Farke is still reluctant to make significant early changes.
Swansea's form looks good, but as I posted on the season thread, the BBC said this about last night: "Swansea City climbed back to third in the Championship after Connor Roberts' late header gave them a fortuitous victory over Nottingham Forest. Forest were the better side and would have felt hard done by had the game ended in a goalless draw."
Also remember the more games they have in hand the more games they have to play between now and the end of the season and with their lack of strength in depth it would only take a couple of injuries to key players for the wheel to come off.
If you're good and you spend a lot of time in the opponent's half, you'll be 'gifted' goals. This is the Championship, not the Champions League.
