Even if we sign a decent striker, holding midfielder and winger in January, I still struggle to imagine a scenario where we don’t go down. The squad is currently a weird mishmash of League One plodders like Coyle, Slater, McLoughlin, Jones, Longman etc., players who have reputations to suggest they’re better than they’re performing like Puerta, Mehlem, Bedia and Ömür, players who don’t seem to give 100% or don’t want to be here like Giles, Kamara and finally the few players who have shown they’re actually good enough for this level like Pandur, Palmer and Hughes. Not seen enough of Alzate but he looks very rusty and having someone like him anchoring the midfield whilst the players around him can’t pass or hold their own doesn’t help. Last season we had Greaves, one of the best, if not the best, centre-halves in the league. Philogene who was one of the best wingers alongside Clarke and Summerville, Tufan, Seri, Delap, Morton and later Carvalho, Zaroury etc. We currently have nobody who is anywhere near as good as any of those players from last season.
It speaks volumes that a player that couldn’t even get into a relegated team from the division below has become our standout midfielder this season. How on earth were both Tufan and Seri allowed to leave? I get the feeling Seri’s departure was heavily influenced by Walter not wanting to have any central midfielders in his team, can’t figure out why else he’d be let go.
Good players not playing: Omur Burstow Drameh There are other changes too that would dramatically improve us. Also, some of our poorest players in the squad keep getting a start. The only thing that gives me some hope is that he made some good substitutions, so maybe he’ll see it soon.
Well, tbf there was. They put in a cross that Coyle tries to head out for a corner. 90 odd times out of hundred that's what happens. But instead it hits their player smack in the face and ricochets into our goal. That said, we didn't deserve anything today. Nowhere near.
He was under contract and we let him go for free. I think it was because Walter didn’t want him and his wages were high. Why else would you let a player like that go for nothing when you’ve got **** all else to replace him with.
The owner was vociferous at the time that anyone who wanted to leave could do just that. Both wanted away, both left and I suspect it was a relief to get both of them off the wage bill.
Yea but seri wanted to leave It was his last chance to go to saudi and a bigger pay deal Plus i doubt he could be arsed slogging it in england for another year
That's the question I've been asking all along. Other than Darnboroug going and Dublin coming in, has Acun made any changes to this brain(les)s team? Imo, along with Kesler, they let him down badly in summer.
We have weaknesses all over the pitch and our lack of goals obviously focuses attention up top. As much as Pedro occasionally looks like he knows what he’s doing, he’s obviously not a sustainable answer, Burstow has shown promise but he hasn’t got the experience we need - not his fault but we shouldn’t be relying on him as the main striker at the moment and Bedia isn’t good enough, full stop. However what’s really costing us is the two full back positions. Drameh’s been found out as the left back he isn’t, Giles just isn’t good enough, Jacob should play there for the time being, but a proper left back is a priority. Coyle needs benching. Drameh being the obvious replacement.
when acun bought us, we were debt free?, safe from relegation, with klp and greaves still, local talents we would sell for big money and almost 3 years later.. look where we are now 5 managers later what a ****ing **** show but there were some free holidays
Hmmm. thought we could have put more pressure on the ball to prevent the cross, thought defender and keeper could have done better too - but I get your point re. ''luck''.
The last time we went down, we had a squad much more suited to League one than this one. How many of these are up for a 3rd tier scrap if we do end up going down? not many by my reckoning...
I’m always an optimist, when Rosie came in and we were doing ****e, I knew he’d pull us up. Sadly, I can’t see anything other than relegation, we’re just not a team.
