That's extremely harsh on Rosenior. The simple truth is that if we released Coyle tomorrow, his next club wouldn't be in the Championship. We're a side who'd be bang in trouble without the points deductions and he's one of the weak links when he plays.
Ricketts and Rosenior were streets ahead of Elder and Coyle, not even in the same league (literally).
Perhaps on Wednesday we saw a glimpse of what a lot of us were saying earlier in the season namely; we thought there was more in the squad than Grant was producing. It is obvious coaching is improving things on the pitch. We all know good coaching can only take us so far though. This isn't a sleight on Grant either.
I'm at risk of becoming a bore on this but Elder and Coyle are so underrated by our fans it's ridiculous. Yes they've played in League 1 but they were piss-takingly good at that level. They're comfortably Championship players. Elder has been looked at by bigger clubs. He's had an injury hit season in a poor side, but he's an excellent all-round full back.
Sorry both present backs are defensively not anywhere near Rosie’s and Ricketts level but BF is almost a winger , Coyle too but as I said before he doesn’t have close control
Eaves was excellent v Coventry. I hope we extend his contract. He’s a nuisance for the opposition and creates space for others. He’s far better than Magennis in my opinion. He just needed a run of games.
Agree on the balance of things now but for context Wilks was always playing next to Josh when he played in the current system which I don’t think helped him don’t think there’s much between them all things considered
Eaves isn’t offside anywhere near as often as Magennis was. The ball sticks better in the final third when Eaves plays.
Definitely just think he’s being helped by better players being closer to him rather then the overweight love child of McCann
I’m biased as Brandon is ex: Hornsea School, but when he stood in for Elder last season for a couple of games – 1st game steady away - 2nd game he had a cracker and nearly scored from a free kick, 3rd game dropped by McCann as soon as Elder was back fit – I thought at the time that was a bit short-sighted by McCann, and I’m delighted (but not surprised) to see him currently doing well.
Elder gets caught in behind.sometimes. So did Ricketts. Coyle is more of a defender.. But given the opinion on here it. Looks like we need to add 3 fullbacks to the summer shopping list instead of 1.
Elder is a better left back. Fleming is a better left wing back. Fleming also has a superb playing understanding with KLP. They’ve played together since they were kids.
If we are serious about challenging then coyle, eaves and elder shouldn't be anywhere near the first 11 and that can be said about probably 80% or so of the squad. For me we are going to need 3 transfer windows to really turn the squad around ( unless we really get lucky ) and again being realistic the promotion push will come the season after next. One thing that is going to help us from the Allam era is the fact we will not stuggle to move players on due to high wages and inflated contract lengthes etc and we have lots of room to play in regards of FFP. There is interest in a fair few of the players we are looking to move on due to the above and the fact they are proven in L1. So it shouldn't be a difficult summer outgoings wise. I think ( and it's a personal opinion ) that the incomings will be a more difficult process
I love Eaves as a trier and all-round good bloke, but this is bollocks and Eaves will certainly not be anywhere near the team next season. The stats are available on WhoScored.com but the comparison between Magennis and Eaves is as follows (all except first on an average per 90 mins basis): %pass completion;number of times offside;unsuccessful touches;number of times dispossessed. Eaves - 50%; 1.2; 5.6; 2.7 Magennis - 64%; 1.3; 1.5; 1.0
Some players won’t be here next season or if they stay, won’t get game-time. Smallwood will either join Peterborough on a free or get an extra year here and be a squad player next season. Docherty will probably stay but he will fall down the pecking order even more as he’s just not good enough, unfortunately. Wilks will probably leave too, unless Shota fancies him. Eaves will likely go. He works hard but lacks the quality, like Docherty. I agree with Howden that incomings will be harder than outgoings. Will be an interesting summer.
Hard to argue with facts Pay him a £500 a week and get him to mow the lawn or a job in the canteen like you say seems a nice bloke.
