To be fair though, it's good to be able to intimidate refs into giving you results. Well done on surpassing us, looks like Barmby's made of the right stuff.
Another good win, with a clean sheet, looking at the stats we dominated possession. Sounds like not the best game, but after the tough run of games with only the last one Wednesday, player were probably a bit jaded, so good to grind out a result. Onwards and upwards.
sooner or later Dawson will give away a penalty with his shirt pulling alas he is to slow, bring back Dudgeon
Not as bad as Burnley, but we still tend to struggle. 3-2 at Fratton Park springs to mind They don't often beat us, but we often end up drawing when we really should have won comfortably.
We've beaten them twice since that 3-2 cock up, think we've started to put the Pompey hoodoo to bed. Looking at the today's stats I think we're Coventry's bogey side, not beaten us in 5 attempts since March 2007 and only scored one goal against us in that time.
I was referring to the game where we were 2-1 up after 87 minutes, which made it 10 times worse, and then an extra 100 times worse considering how few chances we had to grab 3 points in the Premier League. Yes we beat them 3-2 (Fryatt's debut) last season but just because we've beaten them once or twice doesn't mean they can't be a bogey team. Last vs Pompey: Hull 1-0 Hull 3-2 Pompey 2-1 Pompey 3-2 Draw 0-0 Draw 0-0 Draw 2-2 So perhaps we've had more luck recently but still.. results have seldom gone our way.
Great win for us today, upto 5th and go above Leeds. Took advantage of sides around us dropping points and we're 4 points clear of 7th. Long way to go of course but 12 points from a possible 18 is form that will put you in the top 6 at the end of the season. Well done Barmby and the lads and lets keep it going!
Vaz Te was poor for us but look at how many players suddenly improve when they move from one club to another. Was Stewart really that good at Yeovil? Look at Andrews, Walters, etc...
If we're anyone's bogey team, it's Derby and Forest. 6 games against them since the start of last season, we've won 5 and drawn 1 and not conceded a single goal.
Last 3 games Hull City 1-2 Portsmouth Barmby Nugent and Halford Portsmouth 2-3 Hull City Lawrence Bullard, Fryatt and Barmby Halford Hull City 1-0 Portsmouth Koren Wouldn't call that a bogey team !
That's 3 points off all 5 teams from the Midlands in this league. Brings back the memories of our successes in London in 2008!
