I'm sure all you simpletons will credit Wagner for the change of fortune and continue to blame Smith for the previous results. With absolutely ZERO evidence FACT The xg stats have remained the same
Really interesting comment: “But the first half was not good. Even though we went 3-0 up, I was anything but satisfied. We didn't control the ball. We didn't control the game. It looked like in boxing when you don't use your fists for defending. Every hit was like a hit in the face. Even at 3-0 up, we looked nervous.” Even though he’s playing us a lot more like we did under Farke, I think this is quite a different attitude. I think Farke would have said something more like “you have to take risks to score goals, so we have to accept conceding like that”.
Actually they haven't. But who in their right minds would try to draw any conclusions from a sample of just two league games?
You still haven’t responded to explain the really obvious point (or what you said was really obvious)
All this and Ipswich lost. If Carlsberg made football days.........!!!! And Wildschut scored against them.
Conclusions, no. Tentative assessments, yes. And mine is that we are going to see a completely different style of football which is going to be far more entertaining and is likely to be more successful than the style of the last 14 months. Of course, it can be argued that it would not be successful in the PL. But we are not in the PL at the moment, so that is moot. And the much larger sample of the past 14 months suggests that there was almost no chance of getting back into the PL playing the way we did in those 14 months and that, if anything, the decline was getting worse.
His boys lost 0-2 to bottom of the league Gillingham yesterday. Poor soul is licking his wounds in a quiet room
As with any new manager, this is a step by step process. There's the hoped for (and now realised) new manager bounce, but listening to Wagner there's still a ways to go. The complex system he's working on still needs work, but the players are responding to it enthusiastically and the signs are there in the 8 goals in two away games. With Brum postponed, DW now has two weeks to develop the new system in detail before Burnley at home, which will be a real test, as they are the closest team we have to a PL standard. Pass that, and we may be on to something special.
