Surely it should be a prerequisite of league membership that you own your own ground?

If they were a national league side they'd be denied promotion.

It's happened before, can't recall the club.

Completely agree. However, we had to play our pre season matches away after the concerts at the SOL in June....not for the first time.
Sometimes, we need to remember our business is playing football.....that's what we do....any other money raising activities need to revolve around it,not to compromise it,even if for only a short period.
Coventry however, are in a different situation,.......they aren't in control of what goes on in the stadium they currently use. The league needs to make sure that every club is able to fulfill its' fixtures......Coventry don't seem able to do that.

They don't now which is why they've never moved to a modern stadium.

If they left SJP they'd have to demolish the stadium and return the land, in a fit and proper state of the to their landlords.

Unlike other clubs, SAFC for example, they wouldn't have any income, from the sale of the land, to help build the new stadium.

Don't believe this drivel about them staying in their 'spiritual home' ...

    ... they're stuck there.

I was a bit unsure about it....I thought it may be a Chelsea like situation where the club,or another third party, owns the stands, but not the ground they stand on.
    Completely confusing!
We know we don't have any of this.........so glad for the Consett legend that is Sir Bob Murray!

It's something that ALL Clubs should learn by.

ONCE YOU LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR STADIUM YOU ARE A HOSTAGE TO FORTUNE.

And it's by no means unusual for an incoming owner to buy the Club, then split off the main asset, the Stadium, into another company owned by themselves.
I believe that might have been the case at Derby.

In other cases The Local Authority, having bailed a Club out, takes ownership of the buildings and Land.

Then there are those 'Sale and Leaseback' deal that were popular some years back.

Fans should immediately revolt at ANY club where the Directors ar looking to lose control over their ground.

Read somewhere recently that the German consortium who were in talks to buy the club in 2017 were planning to sell the stadium to their own holding company then lease it back to the club, which led Short to pull the plug. Can you imagine the turmoil that wold have followed?

    Totally agree with you.

In fact it should be illegal to split up clubs internally.

Stadiums should be permanently fixed to clubs.

Also, I don't like seeing 'clubs' like Leicester and Southampton go bust and defraud hundreds of small businesses ...

... only for the same people continue as 'AFC Whoever' with zero debt.

Coventry Stadium, or the Coventry Building Society Arena as it's now known (formerly the Ricoh) is owned by Wasps Holdings Limited, so it's no surprise the main priority is rugby.

I wasn't really too bothered about Coventry, never no still don't see them as some kind of rival, and yes, the disgrace to get us relegated is one of the biggest unpunished acts of cheating in football, but some of their **** head fans have shown just why no one gives a ****e about them. Every set of fans have nuggets, but theirs seem a different level. Even though it wasn't there fault because of the Rugby, f**k them, I hope they get nailed for it. Probably ask for another ground share. Embarrassing. Ridiculous partnership to share with a more destructive to turf sport. Its like these people that buy a house under an airports flight path, them moan that there's planes flying over their house.

New owners of companies flog all the distribution sites and warehouses and rent the land back over a very very long term agreement.

Stevenage were the last ones in 1996 because their ground wasn't up to scratch. Been a few denied promotion though.

Coventry should not be absolved because they " signed a stupid agreement " .

This has been going on for multiple years and they have made no progress and barely attempted any apart from trying to bully Wasps .

They have been cut ridiculous amounts of slack, and they are now getting favoured treatment . Other clubs who have been ran well, and possibly suffered on the field because of it, must look and wonder why they bother. And that is without the administration they have benefited from. And admin IS a benefit, as it conveys a competitive advantage over those clubs who pay their bills.

The Council own the land the hotchpotch potch is built on. A bit like building your own house on someone else's land. It's never really yours.

A Chelsea supporters Trust owns the pitch at Stamford Bridge, something Bates was keen on when he sold to Abramovitch, who himself tried regularly to buy it from the trust.

Should be made an example of.
Chuck them out the league, and award a 3 nil win, and 3 points, to everyone they've played in the league....:emoticon-0103-cool:

I do wonder how that comfotrable, (to other Football Clubs), little rule that says -- Football debts must be cleared first, following a liquidation, gets to be Law, (if indeed it is),
I assume that secured creditors stand ahead of this, but it does mean that the small businesses, many of which will be local to the Club, take the biggest hits.

Must be hard for small busineses in Leeds.
Their Clubs, originaly Leeds City, have been going to the wall since 1919.
And it's all a bit seemless.
For example when Leeds United AFC went into Adninistration, on 4 May 2007, they were bought the same day by the newly formed Leeds Untied Football Club Ltd.
