Middlesex v Yorkshire for the Championship is spellbinding. Matching each other blow for blow - and they meet at Lords in the final game. With late September dew, the toss could be vital. Yorkshire have a great seam/swing attack for those conditions.
Middlesex beat Nottinghamshire by five wickets at Trent Bridge Middlesex 247 (Gubbins 75, Ball 5-66) and 235 for 5 (Compton 63, Simpson 58*, Franklin 54*) - Nottinghamshire 241 (Patel 100, Finn 4-54) and 240 (Mullaney 64, Rayner 4-83) Notts relegated
Somerset beat Yorkshire by ten wickets at Headingley Somerset 390 (Gregory 73*, Trescothick 73, Allenby 50, Sidebottom 5-51) and 44 for 0 - Yorkshire 145 and 286 (Lehmann 116, Plunkett 73, Lyth 49, Leach 6-64) If Middlesex defeat Lancashire today, the title is as good as theirs. If Lancashire do not succumb, however, then Middlesex, Somerset and Yorkshire will contest what could still be a wonderful climax to the Championship season next week Somerset, by virtue of a win achieved with a day and 8.3 overs to spare, have cut the margin to second-placed Yorkshire to a single point. Middlesex could lead by 20 points if they beat Lancashire. The advantage, variously, would reduce to nine points if they drew, and four if they lost.
Steve Davies, the former England wicketkeeper, is expected to join Somerset after calling time on his Surrey career.

Warwickshire beat Surrey by eight wickets in the Royal London Cup final at Lords Warwickshire 137 for 2 (Trott 82*) - Surrey 136 (Burns 40) Why on earth was the premier one-day show piece in this country played on a used wicket????
What a great final few days in the CC with all three teams still in contention with an hour's play left at Lords!! Great advert for county cricket. Middlesex deserved to win, but I think Yorkshire would have snatched it had Tim "Brezzy Lad" Bresnan stayed in. Somerset were always outsiders as a result at Lords was going to happen one way or another.
Yes I agree with all that - as a Somerset supporter I was disappointed, but was always going to be a result at Lords once Yorkshire got their bonus points.
