I have fed a new 30,000 seater football stadium and associated retail development at Melton into my planningapprovalometer. It just gave me the answer - 0% chance of success. Allam is sabre-rattling in the hope that a few local loud mouths will somehow sway the FA appeal. It is astoundingly feeble.
He expressly said in the chamber, that this was not a vote on support for a name change, nor for a stadium move, it was just a vote on what a nice chap Allam was.
Well, that was two and a half hours I'm never getting back. What a complete and utter waste of time. Parnaby just read out his motion, then read a load of Allam quotes from the HDM, then told everyone it wasn't a vote on a name change or a stadium move, but merely on what a thoroughly lovely chap Allam is. Some really old bloke then told some rather irrelevant story about Kevin Keegan, then Mike Whitehead stood up and did some gushing of his own. Nobody objected, nobody questioned what 'every backing' meant and it was unanimously carried by a room with an average age of 86. It went on so long, my meter ran out and I didn't even have time for a pint, just enough time to confirm to RH and the HDM that it had been a complete waste of time and was utterly meaningless.
Allam wants a stadium, end of. If he gets it in Hull or Melton he'll drop the name change and continue as owner. All this is proposal is doing is trying to force HCC hand
Rubbish, he won't even talk to HCC about buying theirs and he can't afford to build a new one in Melton, he's just having a strop.
That and the fact that it was and a half hours of watching paint dry. I'm surprised they get anything done at all, it's basically a load of old people bitching at each other, while pretending to be polite and saying very little.
Not necessarily Melton. Financial constraints aside, I'm sure if AA approached the ERYCC and asked 'Identify some land on which to develop a stadium/leisure/retail' they would.
It's a hypothetical question. Dunno who owns the land but what about the land west of Priory Rd, just over the Hull/ER boundary. Or the land on A1079 near Beverley High Rd/Kingswood roundabout Even off the A164.
The Beverley Rd land was/is the site for the park and ride, but there are some disputes over it. The Priory Rd land is possibly owned by Hull CC but is green belt land. The road infrastructure would never cope either.
Where there's a will there's a way, literally. An access road from the A164 - Allam Way or something. OK, I'm not being entirely serious but my point is that everyone assumes Melton is the chosen site for any potential new stadium. That's not necessarily the case, a stadium just outside the City boundary would not have the same stigma and would be readily accepted by fans. Anyway, it's probably never going to happen........is it ??
A new stadium is going to cost upwards of £100 million, maybe more. We made a profit of £8 million last year. We've spent that already on transfers this season. We'll get more income due to the price rises and increased sponsorship but our wage bill has increased as well. Allam Marine made £11 million last year. He cannot afford to keep buying players never mind pay for a brand new stadium. He has laid solid foundations for a move to the next step, but he hasn't got the cash to take us there. I think that's the real reason we are up for sale (coupled, maybe with his age and his health). I expect us to be sold before the end of the season.
He wanted a stadium in the beginning, now, he's in too deep and just wants out. Sooner, rather than later, would suit all parties.
