Regarding the roadworks on the M1. I sometimes miss them out all together and use the A46 and if needed the A5. I average 4 hours up from Southampton and this varies by about 10 minutes on a Saturday morning, Coming back it takes longer if I use the M1. This all goes to ****, on a working day. It can take 4 hours just to get to Leicester.
Gerry has sorted that by restricting over taking by lorries to certain times of the day. Most of the time they all trundle along at the same speed in the nearside lane. Plenty of ****s in cars.
I am quite happy to sit in any lane in roadworks with an average speed limit of 50. It actually works better if all the lanes have vehicles all doing the same speed. But on an open road hogging should be clamped down on.
I've been on about that for years, between 7 and 9 and 4-6 would be good. As Happy says the A14 is a bastard. There was a crash on it every day when i went down it for two years. Usually caused by lorries.
They always decide to overtake one another up a slight gradient. So 15 miles later the 'overtaking' lorry is still side by side with the lorry it's overtaking. ****s me off no end. As most distribution centres are open 24 hours an easier option would be to make lorries travel between the hours of 8PM to 7AM. Leave the open roads to cars the rest of the time.
Or you get dense lorry drivers ignoring diversions due to high winds, a recent example was the portakabin lorry which blew over on the Ouse bridge near Goole causing traffic meltdown for traffic trying to head West from Hull.
Still the same. Can't even say it's just foreigners coming or going to the ports because it ain't. ****s.
A34 north bound has a section between the M4 and Didcot. But local councillors want more. http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/news/news/14270/Could-lorries-be-banned-from-overtaking.html
And they're off... Excavators to start work on major makeover of Hull city centre please log in to view this image A multi-million-pound project to regenerate Hull city centre begins today. Public art installations, quality paving, lighting and street furniture celebrating Hull’s history and architecture will be created as part of the multi-million project to ensure Hull is ready for City of Culture 2017. Preliminary work begins on Whitefriargate, Jameson St, Waltham Street, Queen Victoria Square and The Fruit Market today. Excavators will start removing existing flags and block paving on Tuesday. Work will then begin in Trinity Square, complementing the planned refurbishment of Holy Trinity Church. Councillor Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for public infrastructure, said: “We have a huge amount of work to do to get the city ready for 2017 and I would ask businesses and residents for their patience while the work is under way.” Public liaison officers will work with residents and businesses affected by the project, scheduled for completion by November next year. Garry Taylor, major projects manager for Hull City Council, said: “It is essential that we are ready, not just for our year in the spotlight in 2017 but beyond this, creating a legacy that has tangible benefits to the city and its residents.” http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Exca...tory-27962573-detail/story.html#ixzz3oL0oooK3
A46 is a pretty good option at the moment, in fact my sat nav has defaulted to it a couple of times Pleasant journey and certainly no slower
One of the things they're currently looking at, is the possible removal of the lights on the Queen Vic bogs. They're listed, so special permission would have to be sought and with a limited budget to spend on the city centre refurb, I can't understand why they're considering removing something that's perfectly good as it is... please log in to view this image

I like the Hague especially. Where do you get a canal from? It must have been culverted. Amazing stuff that OLM.
Brilliant. Alas if it was this country the time scales would be somewhat different. Hull 2015 Hull 2045
Didn't Beverley announced centre some works to support the City of Culture? Joined up thinking like that should be good for the region What schemes are planned for the East Riding to capitalise on the pending visitors and attention on the region?
