I can see at some point humans becoming cyborgs where non-functioning parts are replaced with artificial systems. This would include the ability to attach hard-drives to the brain for storing data, especially useful where the patient has degenerative mental conditions.
Unless we gatecrash another planet it would be horrendous if this actually happened. Traffic is bad enough now ffs. Imagine rush hour if no-one died, **** that for a laugh.
If anyone can find a copy of the programme or if they re-run it, this is well worth a watch if you are interested in the research that is going into Parkinson's disease, which may also link into similar traits of dementia; A Future without Parkinson's: Tilo Kunath / Research Fellow, Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Edinburgh. Dr Tilo Kunath, one of the world's leading stem cell researchers, talks about his pioneering work and contribution to finding a cure for Parkinson's, a disease that's increasingly common in Asia. More informative detail here; https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/directtalk/articles/20180705/index.html The above research strangely came about because of the discovery of cell splitting for dolly the sheep, where the scientist who discovered succesful cloning now has Parkinson's himself. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/12/world/europe/ian-wilmut-parkinsons-dolly-sheep.html
They've actually had similar 'success' with human brains ... which explains the LEAVE vote, for instance
A similar thing happened to my Grandad. He fell when getting out of the car after my mum had driven him back home after visiting for Xmas, breaking his hip. Went to hospital had an operation and something with the trauma of it all or the anaesthetic or something basically meant he completely lost it mentally (despite being completely fine before the fall) for a week or so while in hospital. I visited him a couple of times during that week and he wasn't the same guy, my mum stayed there basically the whole time and told me that he was refusing food and just saying no more when being offered food and drink and he passed away. My mum was devastated as she kind of felt she was responsible in some way as she kind of went along with him not wanting to eat, but I'm sure it was what he would've wanted. He was 98 and was very active up til that point really considering his age. There is no way back from a broken hip at that age so I think despite being out of it he still knew what he was doing.
I know what... let's make this about politics, ffs Fossy Anyone got a religious slant to add to it? Go to bed, mate.
thing is loads of people say they couldn't cope with serious physical disability and would prefer death until it happens to them. I do agree a serious conversation needs to be had around this subject and possibly even more urgently social care which everyone wants improving but no one wants to fund it.
I enjoy life. As long as I am healthy enough to function normally and happy, I want to keep living. Maybe not forever but, 1000 years... Sure. Interesting aside, your nose and ears keep growing very slowly as you age... ... Can you imagine how long a 1000 year nose would be. Viagra would no longer be needed for old people.
Not about politics, it's about brains mate ... I'll keep my eye open and see if we can't find you one .... no rush ... you've managed without one for this long
We could put colonies on other bodies today if we wanted to... The problem is with the technology we have it would be prohibitively expensive. No one wants to spend trillions to start up a Mars colony. 15 billion people on the planet: we'd soon find ways to kick people off. The moon could be the new Australia. We could even send a bunch of venemous creatures there ahead of time.
Interesting you say that, as when my dad was dying it reminded me of a birth in reverse. It was like being with my missus when she was having contractions. My dad’s breathing would ramp up and he’d spasm and tense up and then relax again. He went on like that until he took his last breath. With my missus, she went on like that until she gave birth to our daughter.
I don't have to live forever, but I want to live long enough to see Derek Asamoah appreciated by the masses.
I would like to live long enough to see Saints or England - preferably both - win a another major trophy. It’s been a ****ing long wait so far, in both instances.
