... no ... that was Sturridge ... can't say I'm too surprised that you didn't realise Sudge had gone off
They were as ineffectual as each other. Vardy got isolated as Sturridge got pushed back towards the half way line. It was one of those games where, dare I say it, Andy Carroll would have been useful. We couldn't score any other way, and he's proved time and again what a handful he can be in the air for any defence.
Funnily enough NSIS I agree ... Vardy did actually set up a few shooting chances for otehrs on the edge of the box in the second half but that is not his best use .. he needs to be given a chance to attack the last defender or be able to get on to balls pulled back from the by-line - Clyne should have passed to him when he shot ..., was a tap in ... for far too long in the second half our build up was so slow and laboured .. worse still we couldn't seem to avoid finding Skirtl's head like it was a fookin' ball magnet ... Townsend might have been a good option and, as you say, Andy Carroll to unlock such a rigid defensive set-up ... might even have considered playing Dier up alongside Vardy for the last 10 ... at least Skirtl would then have had his hands full ... and given that we had left Henderson on he ought to have been adequate cover for the defence against a team that had no real attacking ambition... Hopefully the knockouts should mean teams more likely to attack ... and thereby leaving more space for us to play in ... certainly we lack the guil to unlock such rigid defences ... Lallana and Sturridge probably our best for that ... but other teams have far better players for such circumstances .. unfortunately.
Why are people mentioning Townsend? He's **** so one footed and easy to defend against, terrible player.
They are bad but not at that level of bad.You have plenty on the bench though Ross Barkley is imo a superb player who should be playing, Drinkwater should also get a game...oh hold on he's on a beach somewhere. Stones would mean you pass the ball out of defence and play a higher line but he's had a bad season so lets write him off, there's probably more I could bang on about but everyone is better than Andros leftie Townsend.
.. I'm not Townsend's biggest fan by some distance ... but he had a very good finish to his season and is therefore 'in form' ... I've always believed in playing the players that are in form ... Wilshire, Henderson and Sturridge were all returning from injury and including all 3 in the squad was at best naiive at worse stupid IMHO ... Sturridge had the most recent game time under his belt and should have been the only 'risky' inclusion on that front ... Ross Barkley is a talent ... but his form was pretty woeful towards the end of the season ... I see absolutely no benefit in wasting a squad place on James Milner ... he is a good Premier League pro ... but he would not now be close to a first choice pick in any particular position in the team ... he should perhaps have been considered as an addition to the coaching staff for his tournament experience and that he seems to be popular with the players .. let's be quite honest ... the Press have bigged up Wayne Rooney's performances in the games against Wales and Russia ... can anybody really see him bossing the midfield against any of the top teams in this tournament? ... seriously? when he came on yesterday he huffed and puffed like an overweight lorry driver in a car park kick-about and did not effect the game positively one jot ... I hope I'm wrong on that score and he goes on to be great against whoever we play next ... but I'm not very optimistic. The real skill and invention in the team appear to lay with Dier, Lallana and Sturridge ... perhaps even worth the risk of Stones ... we certainly are going to need a lot more of it ...
I agree with all that to a point, yes play form players but ones who have the technical ability I don't but Townsend in that bracket. Off form players like Stones and Barkley are surely the future for England, I have said in other threads play them now so that they go into the World Cup with valuable experience. I have seen nothing to suggest the team I picked before the tournament wouldn't have been a better choice. Hart Clyne Stones Smalling Bertrand Dier Drinkwater Alli Barkley Vardy Studge I hate the modern trend for using full backs as width, they should provide it when needed not bomb on needlesly which leaves the defence disjointed or an attacking talent dropping in as cover.
I thought Bertrand was awful last night. One of our worst performers. And what is the point of Henderson? Ok, as I've said, he runs all day. But so does a headless chicken. His passing is woeful, and his free kicks worse!
The England team is missing a fully rested Harry. There's no intelligence in the attacking third, a lot of energy but no brain. A fully rested Kane pulls defenders all over the shop and makes his own space. A clever footballer.
Would've made more sense. Sturridge unfortunately was being played out of position. It was easy to fix, Rashford is a RW. All Woy had to do was bring Alli and Rashford on in place of Wilshere (who I'm surprised everyone has missed on here - he was absolutely ****e) and Lallana. That way he goes back to a diamond with Alli at the tip and Rashford on the right. One thing is for sure though, our front two really should be Kane and Sturridge. Both are the most technically better players up front.
I think what Leicester City has got to concentrate on is trying to keep 10 points clear of the relegation zone, next season.
... ... I'll take that ...provided we finish 10 points clear of Spurs (again) ...good that's 2 of the bottom 3 sorted ...
Come on Fosse. We have been finishing leagues ahead of you on many an occasion. One season and you've got dizzy.
..so? ... I'll be keeping this going for as long as I can ... ...on a more serious note we've signed Luis Fernandez today ... Diego Simione has described him as the best defender Atletico came up against in La Liga ... and Nampalys Mendy was having his medical ..he was our number 1 defensive midfield target before we signed Kante ... such signings are 'dreamland' for us ... amazing times for Leicester fans ...
