I have had enough of wenger but i dont agree with this post. I dont care if he wins anything, im not bothered about winning cups. if he could get us to play great football CONSISTENTLY and not the dross we are playing , and have been playing for years. But he cant and thats why he should just go.
Whilst I think there are areas for improvement, I think Wenger is basically getting most things right. The margins in football are fine, we saw that last night again and we're not actually that far off. We could (and probably should) have taken 9 pts out of the last 12. So for that reason I don't buy into the catastrophising that seems to think sacking Wenger, the board and anyone else to whom blame can be attributed to will solve our problems, it's a naive position to take imo and doing so would undoubtedly leave us in a more precarious position and make it even harder to put things right. It's my firm opinion that Wenger is the best person to get us back on track.
" We could (and probably should) have taken 9 pts out of the last 12 " Yes but we didn't. That is the reality that faces us. A third almost bare run ( I don't know what else to call an average of one point per game ) in 11 months is not I dare say a definitive way of " getting most things right ".
I know ultimately it's a results business and nearly is not good enough, but the point I was making was that we are not as far off as some make out. Many would like to paint a picture of despair, when the reality is (as Arteta has pointed out) that's it's the small details that we need to improve on. The difference yesterday for example was the thickness of the crossbar, two inches lower and RVPs chip would have won the game.
One can go on till the cows come home on ' ifs and buts ' but in the final analysis, they will remain just that, those two inches or width of a cross bar. There won't be any more points for hitting the crossbar, even if we do it all night. And if we don't get many more points than we have, then fourth place is out of the question and that's fact and reality. Put it another way, 37 points from 23 games equates to 61 at the end of the year, on the basis of form. Over the time Wenger has been manager at Arsenal, an average of 66-68 points has been required to make Top 4.
You're missing the point I'm making. Some people think we're in crisis, I'm saying the difference is the width of a crossbar. You don't have to take my word for it, read what Arteta has to say about it.
What Piskie is saying is correct, we are not in a crisis. For us to be in a crisis, we have to be in the bottom half of the table or facing bankcruptcy. However, this is the results business and for the size and history of the club, we should be winning something by now. I think Wenger knows this but there is something that is holding us back from taking that step forward, what it is only Wenger and co know.
You said exactly what I think !!! Its not about trophies, I couldn't care less if we win a trophy or not, I just want us to be competitive and stop the stupid mistakes. I want us to play football that I am proud of. If we don't win because others are spending more than us - so be it, I could live with that quite happily, as most of us know, Arsenal have not always won things so we have been relatively spoilt for part of Wenger's tenure. Wenger needs to give us back good quality attacking football, not the dross we are seeing and make us competitive. If he can' then, as stated, he has done all he can at Arsenal football club in a managerial capacity.
Its all relative PISKIE. At the beginning of the season we were in total crisis .. hovering above the relegation zones. We dragged our way up the table by papering over the cracks then the paper peeled away and we find ourselves in a mini crisis now, not playing good football and not winning games. Coulda, woulda, shoulda is NOT a defence, the FACT is we didn't win those games We played teams in the bottom half and couldn't win a game, so whats going to happen when we come to the better teams ? This continuation of poor form stretches back to the loss in the Carling Cup final - when we capitulated and ended the season in relegation form, we continued that form into this season and it is back again now.
