lets hope eh, as you know i am just not enthralled at all with this signing, just a younger Heskey for me, just not as good at holding the ball up and assists.

really hope i am wrong and he gets off to a flyer though, I dont mind being wrong as long as Sunderland benefits, just a gut feeling saying i wont be though :(

Here's hoping, there hasn't been much noise about Fletcher for a couple of days now, which could mean Wolves were actually making progress with the negotiations instead of talking about it to the press!

If true we have paid way over the odds for an average striker who is only wanted by one team out of 20 in the PL, in my opinion this will only end badly for us. Having said that I am not a PL manager so what do I know?
Wolves last season had Jarvis and a decent midfield to provide for Fletcher and still he only scored 12 and still they got relegated. If he scores more than 4 in the first 10 games then fine I will hold my hands up and say I was wrong, don't hold your breath though.

The Wolves midfield was pretty shocking though mate, Jarvis didn't have a great year and being supported by the likes of Karl Henry didn't exactly help Fletcher. I think with McClean, Seb and (fingers crossed) Sess supplying him Fletcher will have plenty more chances to work with.

I just can't think of another proven Premiership striker, who'd be willing to come to us at the moment, so I'm relatively happy with Fletcher all things considered.

Agreed he is proven but, at one thing mate getting relegated been with two PL teams and been relegated with both. If the Wolves midfield was that bad how come he scored 12 goals? We will not supply him with more than Wolves did and if we did it would mean taking goals away from the midfield so we will not score more goals just the same amount but by one bloke instead of goals coming from everywhere. Which will be easier to counter by opposition teams than worrying about say 3 or 4 players.
Why do we need a proven PL striker would you say no to say Messi (over the top I know but just an example)? I think there are much better out there for what we are reportedly going to pay for him. Honestly mate I hope I'm 100% wrong and he bangs in 15+ goals for us then it's happy days all round I just can't see it though, had the same feeling about Bendtner last season so will stick with my gut as it is way bigger than my brain apparently.

Jarvis didn't have a great year? 8 goals and 4 assists!

Luca Modric "£40m" got 4 assists but only 4 goals

Fair play about Jarvis I had no idea he did that well, totally slipped under my radar.

Back to Fletch, I just feel that a club in our position (unlikely to be relegated but not likely to pull up any trees either) needs a striker who we know will do the business in the Premiership. Wolves were pretty toothless towards the end of the season, and Fletcher was largely feeding off scraps. To be fair to the guy, in his two relegations he was playing at teams who changed managers halfway through the season, which never helps stability. Just because he was relegated doesn't mean he can't do a job; we got Seb from a relegated team, as did the Mags with Ba. If we were to take a gamble on a player from abroad, while it could end up a success like Cisse up the road, the player would most likely take time to bed into his surroundings and we'd be relying on him to adapt very quickly. I'm all for signing someone like Guidetti but I feel it should be to complement a proven Premiership performer like Fletcher, to take the pressure off him a bit.

All in all, I by no means think Fletcher is the answer to all our problems (far from it), but he's a step in the right direction. Would definitely hope to see another striker sign up as well though, possibly someone on loan.
