RVP is good but not on the same level as Bergkamp, sure if you go purely on goals his record will probably be better by the time he leaves arsenal, however, the thing that made Dennis the best player arsenal have ever had, was the way he adapted his game as he got older, when his pace had gone. He used his brain far more, and IMO was part of the reason Henry became so good, it is no coincidence that the last 2 years Henry was at the club was when his performances dropped, this was Bergkamps final year when Dennis never really played that much, and the year after Dennis retired. Even Henry himself said that he owes a lot to Dennis. The amount of clinical passes he would make to set up ljungberg, peires and henry was incredible. He used to see passes that weren't even there, afterwards you would think to yourself "how did he even see that pass was on" Therfore im sure RVP is an a par with Bergkamp on some aspects, but not on vision and passing. Bergkamp added so much more to the team in a creative sense, and he didn't just pick out a clinical pass now and then, it was most games, consistent brilliance that I have not seem since. Bergkamp relied less on power when it came to finishing, he used more deft touches and loved to chip the ball, I recently watched some of his best ajax goals on you tube, and have to say that they are possibly even better than any goals he scored for arsenal, if that doesn't tell you how good they are then I don't know what will. RVP pace and power will go in a few years, like every player, but the way Bergkamp adapted after that was what made him so special. The fact is wenger changed arsenals formation after bergkamp left because he knew he could never replace bergkamp, he was a one of kind player that only comes along once in a generation, henry said recently that bergkamp was the best player he ever played with bar none, this is a man who played with zidane and messi. He was unique in his approach.
Sorry to intrude onto your board but mine is a bit of a mass "Bruce in/Bruce Out" debate, Bergkamp was a truely great player and although RVP's goals are a match his overall touch, play and ability to conjour up miracles isnt anywhere close to Bergkamps. I wish he was still in the Premier League! Ps. RVP is still a good player dont get me wrong, just not upto Bergkamp standards yet.
In their peaks both are clearly different players in different systems so its hard to compare the two. But for his sheer skill and the amount of genius moments he gave us, Bergkamp will never be matched by Robin. Although cleary, Van Persie should go past him in the goal tally by the end of the season.
