Great result - well done Deano and the boys! I watched the second half on the Red Button and thought we played well. Special mention for O'Dowda - not my favourite player but I thought he was a real nuisance and was a pain in QPR's @rse. Glad to see Deano took my advise and played Martin and Wells - he must read this forum............
Another brilliant 3 points. I feared the worst when we went behind early, but fair play to the lads whether we rode our luck or not. Preston have one of the best, if not the best, away record in the Championship but are really REALLY poor at home. They've only lost at Watford and at Rotherham but have lost 6 home games, whilst just winning once at Deepdale against Sheffield Wednesday
I am amazed we're still in a play off position especially considering Covid and injuries. I said before the Watford game we were running on empty so to win again last night was pretty special, and a bit fortunate. Credit Holden for hooking DaSilva off half time, Rowe and moving Semenyo made a huge difference. The big plus for me so far is how we play when we don't have the ball, I can't remember us being so organised and in a good shape. Suppose that's a shout out for our 2 coaches as well. Marriappa gives Holden the option again to play 3 at the back with wingbacks. Vyner and Kalas are certs to start Saturday in a back 4 or 3, it will be interesting to see which formation Holden goes for. Finally from last night, I thought Nagy and O'Dowda were excellent.
Like you've said before, every club has injuries etc. We could have quite easily have lost that game and had we gone in HT 3/4-1 down I wouldn't have been surprised. Our passing in the first half was dreadful and QPR bossed it.....Bentley was our saviour once again. QPR's finishing is worse than ours!! Fair play to Dean for changing it and we were better (not great) and getting that early goal was crucial, which we did well to hold on to. (touch and go) At times it's difficult to watch and be entertained with so many mistakes and bad passing but can't deny our position in the league and Dean seems a good honest guy learning the ropes. Lets hope we continue to mount up the points and challenge for at least a top 6 place to show our progress..
mid week games over and we are now part of 10 teams vying for automatic promo … and just a game in it for us COME ON YOU REDS
That's the closest championship I've seen for years 3 points separating 1st to 8th.....Only 8 points separating mid table to top spot.....very weird!!
I wonder if it has anything to do with no atmosphere at the grounds...... It's weird that our away form has been better than our home and has been for a few seasons..not changed, even with new manager...
It is very weird this year, 4 points seperate the top 10 places, anybody gets knocked off of the pedestal with a couple of losses, if nothing else it keeps us guessing.
………. when you analyse this weekends games other than Bournemouth, away, the other top 7 are all at home. 4 teams play teams outside of the top 12 & 4 teams play teams in 9th to 12th On paper at least you might expect AFC Bourne, Reading, City and Norwich to pick up 3 pts! Barnsley v AFC Bournemouth …….. 0 - 4 Reading v Nottingham Forest …….. 2 - 0 Brentford v Blackburn Rovers ….. 1 - 1 Bristol City v Birmingham City …… 0 - 0 Norwich City v Sheffield Wed ……. 0 - 0 Stoke City v Middlesbrough ……… 1 - 0 Swansea City v Luton Town ..…… 1 - 0 Watford v Cardiff City ………………. 0 - 1 on paper form table …….. 1 Norwich 16 ....… 31 2 Bourne 16 ….…. 30 3 Watford 15 …..... 27 4 Reading 16 …....30 5 Bris City 16 …... 30 6 Brentford 15 ……. 26 7 Swansea 15 …..…. 26 8 Stoke City 15 ...…. 25 9 Blackburn 15 ...…. 24 10 Middles 15 ....…. 24 11 Luton T 15 ...…….22 12 Cardiff 15 …....….20
I think much will depend on how teams manage so many games so close together, those with bigger squads will pull away as the season progresses. Unless our long term injuries start returning fairly soon I think we will start to slip down the table.
Totally agree , the contrast between recent seasons when much of the time the players often didn’t seem to know there roles, which is all the more impressive considering the lack of preparation time they have now due to COVID , really impressive in my opinion
The formula to success for Bristol City seems to be to let the opposition have as much possession as possible in non threatening areas. Against Derby, Watford, Huddersfield, Cardiff and QPR we had less than 40% possession. Only since the international break did we have more possession in one game.....Reading.. mmm
it is a dangerous game to play … could be we have a defence capable of protecting 0-0 an attack that could spring a surprise, the odd goal but should they score early we are doomed should they get a second! one day we will hit someone for 6 !!!
