No, I couldn't see it. I could well see Best becoming a fairly long serving player. <ok>

Best could be sold for big money....

.....but only if the buying club used one of those big cheques like lottery winners get!

Van Nistelrooy was widely accepted as being a horse throughout his career. Does that count?

There's more to Best's game than people realise. I'm still hoping they don't realise because if he continues to improve like he has over the last 10 months we'll have a very solid striker on our hands.

I think his all round game is decent and improving. I was one of his biggest critics and thought he his laid back attitude would hold him back from achieving anything. The key for me is he has managed to make a change that all footballers are able to make, but struggle to ever make. Workrate. Its a simple thing to change but it is extremely difficult to change your natural way/habits. Best has done this. He was as lazy as they come when he first arrived. He didn't want to run channels, didn't want to peel wide, wasn't interested in being a partnership and just stayed central. His hold up play has always been decent and I think he has discovered its a hell of a lot easier again when you move and make space.

Since we didn't get the much mentioned striker, he seems to have taken it as an opportunity. I think he has realised just how lucky he is to be at a PL club, and intends to make the most of it. Some of his crossing is not just decent, its first class. As a fellow striker Ba will love balls coming into the box with pace on them which he does. He seems to be a good team man too.

Heskey was decent at leicester and he went for about 12 million or summit which am sure was liverpools record signing at the time, I agree that he's a donkey though!!

£4million at the most. I would probably rate him about £3m

Yep, this is a perfect description. He certainly does seem spurred on by criticism now, perhaps being stuffed into the reserves woke him up and he started putting in the work he can do. I too was a Best critic, the day I saw Pardew had started him against West Ham I struggled to remove the palm from my face, but he showed what he can do when he puts in the effort and ever since then he's been clearly practicing other parts of his game. His crossing, as you mentioned, is brilliant, he's show he can take on the defense with the ball at his feet - and better yet he has shown that he is willing to keep doing it.
You're also spot on about his team play, there's been a few games this season that I've noticed Best set up goals and create chances without having scored himself only to find himself victim to people saying "he didnt score and thats all he can do so therefore he was **** today".
I hope he keeps up this effort because his will to prove how much he can do is catching people off guard and it's certainly working for us.

Emile Heskey cost 11m once... plus Demba Ba? he has only sprung to prominence over the last few years, was playing lower league football in France and then Germany in his early 20s - top flight debut came at 23/24 after promotion with Hoffenheim. Without the free transfer clause he probably would have cost close to 10m from WHU considering they paid 6/7m?

    Scarily similar to Best?
